Flower Hydra is a Venus Flytrap on steroids. A plant-animal that is surrounded by many myths. Anatomically, it consists of an underground tuber and three or more sprouting heads above ground. Heads attack anything that moves within their reach, no mater the size of intruder. Weaker prey is killed and quickly eaten by the Hydra, but even defeat serves its purpose – reproduction. Its heads are essentially flowers, they contain baby seed-like tubers in a thick shell. Most animals can’t eat it, so a severed head remains on the ground where it fell. In time the seed-tuber crawls out and burrows to start a new plant.
Because heads usually fall and root close to the original plant, many people believe, that Hydra grows new heads in place of lost ones, when in fact it’s a whole new Hydra.

Without animals to hunt and occasionally chop heads, Flower Hydra slowly withers and dies. But heads have long reach and flowery looks provide decent camouflage, so usually Hydras do quite well and soon grow into groves. Because only Hydras at its edge get to hunt, those in the center die, so older groves are ring-shaped. Ground in the center is often littered with leftover loot from unlucky adventurers.
Hydras are moderately strong opponents, but they are persistent. Even if all heads are killed, more can still grow from the same plant, if it had enough food stored. To kill a Flower Hydra safely and for good, one must dig to its tuber and slay it. Doing so can even save you from fighting the heads – they will die shortly after the main body.
Some cultures have learned to use Flower Hydras as means to guard their fields and gardens from wild animals. This is done by picking up the head before it roots and carrying it to the desired spot. Hydras placed in a garden will protect it from boars, monkeys and the like. When harvest time comes, gardeners kill heads with long reach weapons and store seeds for the next season. Tubers are usually sold, as they are quite a delicacy.
Players can also use them for defensive and offensive purposes – to guard their home and other buildings, or as traps and means to slowly siege enemy settlements.
