Fix the matter manipulator!

The matter manipulator is the main problem with 'cheesing' the game mechanics.

Being able to place items in a radius of your character makes exploration too easy. However, its a neat feature that should not disappear.

Instead, it should be converted to a secondary L R (equip) Where you have the matter manipulator in your left hand, and the placeable block in your right hand.

This means that you can only radially lay that particular item. If you run out, or need to change, it will take precious time to do so.

You can also balance this further by only allowing specific items in this slot, or making it slower to place.

The player would then be allowed to use other blocks at normal laying speed, but at a much smaller radius

 

no this is a terrible idea that will make building any structure very tedious. the current system is fine imo

 

I don't understand what you mean by cheesing?

if it is walling in enemies, then the much better solution is to disallow attacking thru solid blocks and/or making bosses ignore blocks.

 

This is without a doubt, the worst idea I have ever heard of.
The current system is definitely fun, and if you don't like cheesing: don't do it & don't play with people who do.

That being said..just because youre and idiot doesnt mean its a bad idea.

In fact, it hardly changes anything. The only thing it changes is limiting the speed at which you can switch blocks and place anywhere.

Again ... just because you people are short sighted and stupid doesnt make it a bad idea. If you don't understand the suggestion inquire for more explanation. Don't come out bashing an idea because you are slow.

It would only be a better solution if they didn't want to include that as a strategy. There is absolutely not reason it couldnt be a strategy. Especially when they are giving monsters the ability to break blocks.

If it was slower, and required more time to swap around, then combat wouldnt need such a huge change.

 

or how about make it so you cant attack thou walls
that would be the easyest and not dumbist idea

That still doesnt change things like the ease of building ramps downward in a cave. Or walling off monsters completely and NOT killing them.

should you really be able to 'paint' blocks onto walls as easily as you do? I dont know...but i think it should at least be a bit more limiting than it is.

In my opinion this is a part of the game. You'll have to deal with things like monsters, water, lava .. Using the matter manipulator to avoid danger or build an alternative way is what is actually fun.

Its in the wrong section, this is a suggestion more then anything but most of all it its devolved into people flaming eachother back and fourth, I don't want to see that on the forum.
