Good day, My suggestion is to insert a Fishing Wheel into the game. As can be seen in this short video: A fishing wheel is a craftable item. It uses 5 bait per day to operate and can store 20 bait max, (which means it can be left to work for 4 days). It catches 2-3 fish per day max, and can hold up to 10 fish max. (These numbers are just examples, perhaps they should be lowered). A fishing wheel can be damaged by storms and harsh weather, which will make it stop working, so keep an eye on those weather reports. Repairs would require a certain amount of wood. (And maybe a hammer!) I hope you like the idea. Fishing is the only action in this game that actually requires some skill. Therefor I am bad at it. It frustrates me that I have to spend a lot of time trying to get a specific fish, while I would rather be working on my farm, digging in the mines or interacting with other characters. Having a Fishing Wheel would be a great alternative to manual fishing. Greets, Doc. PS. This entire suggestion is based on the assumption that Crab Pots do not catch fish. I have checked the Wiki and only saw other catches mentioned, such as shrimp, trash, crabs, etc.
This is a great idea. (So is the real-life fish wheel, for that matter.) If I knew anything about modding I'd be working on this right now, but sadly I can barely reskin a sprite without getting errors. Igorious has been working on a mod that adds new machines to the game complete with accompanying recipes and (I think) crops; if anyone knows how to add all-new machines it would probably be them.
