Fish farm?

What are the conditions for different-sized fish to spawn? Is there any way for big fish to spawn anywhere else than in the seas of an ocean planet? And is there any effective way to make a fish farm?

 

There are only two places where I've seen Giant Fish spawn - the waters in the "big cave" zone within an Abandoned Mine dungeon, and Ocean/Frigid Ocean planets.

Harmless fish seem to spawn in any body of lquid (even lava) that's deep enough to submerge a player, provided that the world supports life (they do not spawn on moons, barren worlds, asteroid fields, or player ships.)

The only 'efficient' way to farm fish that I know of is to walk the seabed on an Ocean world, blasting anything that swims.

 

I've made quite a big lake (5000 blocks of water) that is quite open, do you think big or Giant fish might spawn or do I need to be in one of these biomes for it to work?

 

Floran made fissssh farm once. Take stupid frogman and put in water. Then floran ate the babiess. Chewy!

 

I modified a big cave in the Abandoned Mine I made my base under, in hopes of having endless fish alongside my oceanic crops (more fun to grow underwater!). But... once I had started modifying stuff, the fish stopped spawning. Might be interesting to ask the modders or dig through the files to see if the conditions are apparent.

 

Man, every time I see the words Fish Farm together, I have awful flashbacks.

 

Big fish only spawn on oceans.
Small fish spawn anywhere except on moons and asteroids.
you need a big sized pool if you want to farm fish efficiently.
(or be the lazy guy, mod the game, and make a fish spawner, just like me!)
