No it's not impossible. You get 2 quest you can turn in before you go to the boss dungeon that rewards you with Tech Cards. One were you need 1 diamond and another for the Coffey, Mug and Spoon quest. You get both of those quest from the Outpost. Coffey lady quest is right were you enter the outpost and the Diamond quest is further in the back, given by the antenna on the roof.

The only techs you can unlock at this stage is bouncy, energy dash and pulse jump. The sheild tech isent available until you have upgraded your ship to a much higher level and you cant do that this early without cheating (even the first ship upgrade requires materials you can only get on radioactive planets also known as the durasteel tier).

    Where is this launcher?

Any weapon drop is random loot. Thus its not in a set location your just lucky to find it. (at least as far as i know, i have explored the mission zone aloot)

Only problem I had with the boss is the last phase FORCES the use of a shield (Taking unavoidable damage should not be part of a platforming boss mechanic) and the fact that your character backpedals when your mouse is on one side of the screen while you are moving in the other direction. Seems counter-intuitive to platforming game-play, I shouldn't have to mirco manage my mouse when I am trying to platform.

I normally use a shield, so the shield thing wasn't a big deal, but my friend does not use shields, so they had no option other than take the damage and use bandages. Not fun, nor should you ever be forced to use equipment that isn't mandatory as part of boss mechanics anyway. (And no equipment in Starbound is Mandatory)

    Allright. Missunderstanding cleared up then.

Yeah all I want is a checkpoint at the boss. Perhaps the dexterity required to beat him is a little high for boss #1, but it can be tweaked.

    Dreadwing was worse.

I'm going to have to second you on the backpedaling. The speed changing if your mouse just happens to be on the other side feels a bit clunky to be honest, not quite something you'd want in a platformer. Aside from dodging and blocking being tweaked a bit, just make it a little more clear that you need to use the laser that's hooked up to the switches, because up to this point all you know switches do is lights and doors. And I'll go ahead and say what everyone else is saying and just throw in a checkpoint of some kind that makes sense somewhat close to the end.

Ohh yeah, let's make the game even more easier. Finally there's a challenging boss and people already complain. Ridiculous!

First boss shouldn't be this difficult. This isn't Dark Souls or wanting to be like it. It took me a few times, but I eventually killed him. What frustrated me more was the fact that I had to run through the entire dungeon again.

This is a 2D game so it should represent other 2D games with how they handle bosses. Megaman is a prime example. Difficult bosses but if you know the routine, you won't be hit. A boss should not have an ability that always hits the person. It makes the player feel like they are doing something wrong when they really can't avoid it.

Well, the boss is kind of difficult, but I like that he's difficult. Even as the first boss.

that may be fine for you, but many other people play this game to explore space and build stuff. this dungeon and boss is the gate that stands in way of the other 99% of the game. as the first boss at a point where most players are yet trying to figure out the combat, the first mission is in definite need tweaking... or need of a checkpoint... or, better yet, both!
