Seems a lot better than the previous time you posted your plans for 1.0 (the thread where you forgot to mention anything about story). Much more solid, clear and all this time. Surprised by the amount of features you detailed in that post, but if you think you can provide, sure. Slightly sad the separate starting stories (I remember you posted a starting cutscene for some race) for different races got scraped, but oh well. You know your capabilities and what's better for the game (most likely) better than we do.
Alright, as long as i like all the news, i really hope there will be no whipes again, i really don't want to be forced to recreate whole my "team" again
"...An organisation formed on earth by humanity to protect and guide the universe towards peace..." Yes, I'm a member of the Protectorate. Protect and serve et cetera... I'm guiding everyone towards peace with my minigun!
Little worried that we don't yet have the depth in the colonization system that was originally hinted at, and they didn't cover it much in the news there. Where is the colony progression? Having one tenant eventually unlock a special piece of furniture you could use to get a new higher tier tenant, and them progressing to yet another higher tier tenant, with better rewards and items for sale. That was talked about in in the original colony preview/reveal and mentioned as coming in the future. What is in the game was supposed to be just the foundation of a large complex system with an entire progression system separate from the other main methods of progression, but so far all they added to it was random quests. The other main methods of progression were also supposed to include farming, including tiered crops to advance through, and various special unlocks there, I haven't seen anything about farming in ages.

So much hype! Being able to play multiplayer with less hassle is always nice too, that has been what I have been looking for all this time. Makes it so much easier to play with friends instead of trying to deal with ports and stuff. Although I am somewhat disappointed that each race doesn't get their own story this time, and just get railroaded to a galactic protector story starting on earth, considering some races probably care less about that than others, namely Floran and Novakid.
You're ignoring the fact that the Matter Manipulator is something UNIQUE to the Protectorate. Meaning the other races would not get it
I am slightly unsure about going even further with Steam integration in regards to multiplayer and whatnot. Already it's slightly bad that an average player cannot simply get the game reliably/legally without the use of Steam and since many of us paid for the game even before connection to Steam was in full swing, they may be disappointed and even angry if Chucklefish will make Starbound absolutely dependant on the use of that platform. Frankly, as I am not too crazy about using Steam already, due to certain issues with it and my connection in the past - I am sure I'll be among those disappointed. If anything, I'd like to see at last a reliable Steam-less version pipeline for players hoping for such upon 1.0 release.
You don't have to "come from earth", you are just on earth at the start of the story. This is because you are a new member of the Terran Protectorate, which has its main(?) base on earth, and that is where you get initialized. It's a sandbox game. Build, explore. If you want a story, quests and an "endgame" after finishing the "main story" and batteling the "endboss", go play RPGs. There are enough of them out there.
Literally just created this account to ask Chucklefish devs to have my babies. Been expecting a full release for a long time.
What's the point of game being a " sandbox" if you have little to do with it once you're done with the not-so-sandboxy story mode? I myself might be a big fan of setting up elaborate systems and constructing structures but, let's be honest here, not everyone who plays Terraria is a fan of basebuilding and might end up satisfied with a hovel and not even touch the electronics just like not all stick to redstone in MC. You need some things to do for those who are into game for combat (which despite improvements in mob generation and weaponry still gets repetitive, and the arena shouldn't last long), explorers (and even with environment enhancements subterranean exploration is duller than in Terraria, and not to mention most folks who bought SB should already by familiar with majority of existing dungeons), and collectors (with fossils being the only element that might satisfy the group - and that's including the fact underground exploration is otherwise dull). Your argument that this is a sandbox so it doesnt require endgame is ridiculous. The endgame is when you can still engage in side activities and exploration without having to worry about storyline or equipment progression, so I assume your perfect sandbox game is Diablo or Torchlight as you can continue picking up better and better equipment and replay the story in them endlessly. New loot, micro dungeons, dungeons and planet biomes didn't remedy anything in previous builds, making exploration just slightly less repetitive, so I really hope Chucklefish will spend some extra time working on additional unique elements to discover in different worlds - be it rare resources, more collectible types or more diverse encounters. Is there a way to get a GoG key or whatever if you got the game back in pre-order phase and even have an above-the-average tier?
Ehm btw this whole Protectorate... dman it, did they read story i added to artwork that my steam friend made out of my character ? if somebody iterested in what i'm talking about here it goes http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=655545485
All that is absolutely great, but I personally can't imagine Apex story without the rebellion and/or miniknog. Everything seems great, but I think that the idea of the protectorate is too new for me and for lots of users, so it'll take a lot of time to get used to it.
