The update has apparently been in the works for a while, so I wouldn't read into it that far. The developers don't give out estimated dates very far in advance anymore, so I wouldn't wait for one.
This may be a stupid question, but I'm gonna ask anyway to make sure: will there be a character wipe when 1.0 comes out? Have a great day everyone!
99% certain there won't be, but it is recommended to make one nonetheless due to new systems and the intro mission, and new progression.
If you mean the blog, then they're pretty much saying "Stable won't update until 1.0 is done". They do hint that it's close, but best to keep hype under control.
Hate to be that guy (Oh hey, I'm here now) but I have two things. 1. Is it healthy to ask for an estimate as to when 1.0 is done? I know someone might have already said it but I really don't want to scroll thru 21 pages of comments. 2. An acquaintance of mine asked if the game has left handed support.
No official date, fans speculate this year. What the hell is a left handed support? I'm a leftie, and I have no idea.
"1.0 soon?" "No" "when 1.0" "Sometime this year maybe" "site update means 1.0 soon?" "No it doesn't" "don't mean to annoy but 1.0?" "No" Possibly one of the more amusing things here to wake up to. Good morning.
Guess this officially means simplified touch damage for most/all enemies is here to stay for the 1.0 release... even though it's *vastly* inferior to the system prior where only enemy attacks could hurt you. I used to find combat infinitely more interesting and strategic. Now it feels like playing a bland Nintendo game from the 1980's. I'm really, really disappointed they absolutely insist on keeping this downgrade -- especially when you consider nobody was asking for it in the first place.
+1 didn't like the old system and now when u hit the enemy they dont do touch damage for a short time if i got the changelog right
Yes, Terraria underground has actual sizeable pools of water and lava that require either creative approach to get drained or low-end equipment to traverse. There are rail tracks, biomes with different environmental hazards like slippery cracking ice or growing thorns. The rewards are worth it and microdungeons like beehives offer unique rewards and resources, unlike SB microdungeons that are only useful as sources of unique furniture which is kinda negated by 3D printing. Even back in early release versions Terraria offered a way more interesting environment to explore. Also, "Terraria 1.0 didn't have it so it's okay" is a pathetic argument, it's like saying "Titanic didn't need sound because Lumiere brothers made movies without it". Lots of things changed since then, even AAAs got involved in open world sandboxes and Starbound 1.0 is not going to compete with Terraria 1.0, it's going to compete with the current build, and despite offering many ambitious features like a randomly generated galaxy it just doesn't have the same replay value or sandbox factor. Starbound has a bigger team, it had all the time in the world to learn from other open world sidescrollers, and yet it's still failing behind in quite some ways. I'm not sure why are you comparing my idea to thaumcraft, that particular mod introduces quite heavy tiering and tech progression, meanwhile my suggestion doesn't contain anything like that - it's just a way to plug many unusual items and make each planet biome more valuable. Also, back to microdungeons, the diversity of options won't fix the general issue of how awkward they can be sometimes, they're too common, offer nothing apart from rare furniture. And as I said, labeling the game 1.0 without offering any actual sandbox content beyond several activities won't do game any justice.
Sorry. I partially agree with some of your arguments about some key features being absent from a 1.0 release not being good. Especially a more rounded end-game. That being said, you are dead wrong about terraria. Take it from someone with over 1600 hours of it clocked, Rail tracks, Ice biomes, Bee Hives and most mini-biomes did not exist in release Terraria. It was quite boring to explore underground as well with something like a 1/20th of the items and only a handful of the existing enemies. I wrote the game off as a sort of quasi-retarded minecraft until it got the Wall of Flesh.
