Fertilizer?

Right now, farming's nothing more than just waiting an absurdly long time for the plants to grow. The fact that you can't do anything to speed up the process is kinda off putting, so maybe you could add in fertilizer that you could make through crafting using plant fibres and raw alien meat, or something. I'd come back from exploring huge planets for hours and when I come back the plants haven't grown a stage at all. But fertilizer would probably fix that.

Those are some slow plants; my plants are usually fully-grown after an hour (typically grapes i plant)...~

though fertilizer sounds like a pretty neat idea as well.

I haven't started my farm yet.

I'm still looking for my planet o.o

But DAMNIT if I don't wanna start farming now xD

probably has to do with distance from your farm. When I am building my house, the plants actually grow very fast (like every day I can farm and reseed my farm). But when further away, the plants don't seem to grow. The same thing happens in Minecraft by the way, if you are too far, your plants won't grow

The fertilizer for your plants is your love and affection, if you are not near them they feel lonely and do not grow quickly. If you want them to grow stay near them, dont leave them and be there for them through all their difficult growing times in their life.

As a long time player of Minecraft (modded) ... I find myself wondering if I should chunk load where I have my crops at or fertilize them or maybe build a machine to harvest and replant. Obviously, I've been ruined by modders. :)

Just put a row of sewage blocks underneath your plantings.

So far I've been mostly growing wheat, corn, and potatoes, and potatoes definitely take a really long time. Corn is really fast with wheat not far behind.

I think there is something up with growing in general, however. I took a really long trip to the very core of the planet for fun, dug tons of minerals and resources and explored plenty. When I came back, it didn't seem like anything had grown further than when I had left. However, I could just stick around my little house nearby and would always see very quick growth (with the exception of potatoes).

Yeah, obviously farming's not going to be an option if you move around alot, like I do, infact if you stay on the same planet and don't try to find something new on it, or do SOMETHING other than just sit next to the plants, then you're playing the game wrong. Either fix the plants, or just make fertilizer, maybe both.

The problem is that plants dont grow when you are to far away, Minecraft had a similar problem once i seem to remember.

When you are on another planet. or just digging really deep crops dont grow at all.

I suspected they wouldn't grow 'off camera'. A lot of games will not keep parts of the game active when you're not around. So if something grows and it takes 5 minutes to do that, you need to be around for 5 minutes looking at it so it'll grow. When you're away, the camera isn't looking at the plants and therefore - they don't grow. In minecraft (modded minecraft) you need to use things called chunk loaders to get stuff like this (growing plants) to work while you're not around.

For this game I'd put a time stamp on the plant for when you planted it. Then you can leave and when you come back if the time stamp shows enough time passed for it to grow while you were away - it's fully grown. Wouldn't need to be loaded while your gone growing and taking up valuable computer time and space.

If they fix the plants they wouldn't need a fertilizer item, but if they do fix them you could make it so that plants that grow on fertilized soil give more drops, or something. Sewage + Meat + Plant Fiber = Compost which would double crop yield of plants planted on those blocks.
