Someone else said it before, but the Terraria death is very satisfying. Especially with the squish sound they make when they die and the way the body parts roll around on the ground.

Hopefully, they've got someone good on the sounds department and realize how important things like this are.

I like it. Better than body parts flying around - I hated this sort of animation in Terraria.

Monsters should explode in a spray of red, red blood.
Their body parts should fly in all directions and their innards should stick to the armor your wearing.
Unless they have acid blood, in which case you could take damage if your not properly equipped for it.
Rivers should run with the blood of your fallen foes and the galaxy should fear your arrival on their world. lol

I personally enjoy the old one were the creatures just explode. It adds more... power I guess to your killing blows?
The smoke ball would just get old and boring fast since it just wouldn't look right with all the different monsters and weapons.
I'm going to go with everyone and say it's either noobie mode, a test, or one of many animations!
I actually really like what kreekgod said. Tons of deaths for many different reasons and that the body should stay in the world for most cases. I think it adds more feeling like, "Oh yeah, I just killed that," or, "OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE!?!?!?" (Maybe... )
The smoke could work in some cases!

I think this death animation looks like the monsters are all ninjas and they used a smoke bomb to disappear.

It's not like it matters or anything, culture is laminated with a thick coat of violence. There's always that kid in 1st grade who speaks about what he saw in Scarface, there's always some bomb explosion somewhere and there's always someone getting shot, and then worst of all there's the Internet. You can't really prevent the enevitable.

Entirely besides the point. If the devs want to put in a low gore option, it's their decision.

i agree with this, i hate the fact that the monster stands there like a deer in the headlights flashing for 2 seconds before exploding... Terraria had it right.. the death was really satisfying and the body parts looked gorey.. im not some sicko who loves dead bodies but i cant deny that in a video game the death sound and animation in terraria was really good.

Right now it just looks awkward.
But please chill guys that was just a placeholder sprite. It was drawn in a few seconds. Relax - this isn't the final version.
I like this thread.. but c'mon isn't that obvious?

Slaughter the cute monster :viking:! Puff.. dead :DD.

I wouldn't have a vendetta against it, I think it would fit the game's background and terrain if they had realistic deaths, like visible wounds and maybe a little gore but mostly disintegration when they die of explosions. Starbound is completely okay with cartoonish style with gore, Team Fortress 2 was fine with it.

well the old exploding enemies was a placeholder.

I wouldn't call this a placeholder, because like someone else said, why replace a placeholder with a placeholder?

Besides, people are just stating their feedback on the death animation. No one here is going to stop playing the game because of it, we're just saying we don't like it that's all

It's called trying out different things to see what works.

How about different Kill animations for different methods of killing? Mele weapons will cause the body parts flying everywhere where as ranged guns will have the new animation

    no it's not

that's not why you would replace a placeholder with a placeholder

If you are at a point where you are trying things out and don't have final art, everything is placeholder. Not sure what you think I mean, but it's a perfectly valid answer to a question that has been asked several times.

A placeholder is specifically something you fully intend to replace later- if you even think you might not replace it, it is by definition not a placeholder.

I think there should be an option for blood. If something is killed, they shouldn't just poof away, they should fall over dead. Or gib everwhere. Both ending in death.
