I think you can cultivate slimes in the caves, based on the gameplay video they released.

i've always loved turnips, dont know why. just plant masses of them all over the place.

I always plant loads of turnips everywhere. In the newest HM, though, I'm really liking growing mushrooms and all the herbs All seasons with multiple harvests, can't go wrong!

 

It is very nice being able to grow all your renewable crops year round. I wonder if they will have crops that are low yield, but very high price. Early on it would make sense to plant high yield low sate to get necessary tools and items, but later on you could plant low yield but high sale for less maintenance and planting when money isn't an issue.

 

Onions! and lets not forget tomatoes.
