Havent been able to play since 1.03 dropped...versions before that i at least could play through the EXE files in the main directory.

    Edit*

This is from a freash installation, its uninstalled right now, but i guess i can re-download it and try that just to see if it works...will report back after i try it.

Tried it, didint help, get the same error. the first log was useing the EXE from the games directory. Replaced with new log through steam startup if that helps any. (Sorry for the smilies >_> )

    2nd Edit**

So i turned off all my anti-virus, anti-malware, and even my firewall... still getting the same error, at this point im convinced its something to do with the updates. They broke something and i cant play because of it. Had fun playing it, now extremely disappointed i cant play it since 1.03 >_<

Starbound can't access the steam library or the steam library is failing. Have you tried validating your game-cache through steam?

    Bump

Waited a few days as not to be too spammy...new log posted above replacing old one.

Your starbound still seems to fail in communicating with the steam api somehow. Depending on what antivirus software you're using it could help adding starbound to the exception list.

I just tried that, after still not being able to play since release, and I had no luck.

    Any other ideas?

Unfortunately not really. It's hard to say what is causing the error in the communication between starbound and steam. Maybe disable the steam overlay can help since the stacktrace throw the functions name "OverlayHookD3D3".

    Hm

That didn't work either. I know the problem originates from launching the game with Steam, as many people with this error, including me, have been able to launch the game should we not use steam, but then we don't get Workshop/Multiplayer access, which is where my problem lies.

Do you have windows UAC active by chance? Maybe it's worth a shot by disabling it for testing.
Something is somehow blocking the access for/to the steamapi which seem to be related to the os settings.

Steam overlay enabled or disabled still the same error...sigh even looked into windows UAC but apparently Windows XP does not even have it. I have no idea what else to do >_<

Is your user account admin or normal (limited) user?
Maybe forcing starbound to launch as admin could help. However this can mess up file permissions pretty bad for saved files when the game runs without said permissions. Maybe it can be worth a try it still isn't the best solution after all.

Yea im admin, only have one account on this computer and guest accounts are outright disabled.

Hm...is steam running directly as admin? There seem to be a permission issue between steam and starbound somehow.

Had no problems pre 1.0...at least in 1.02 i could run the game through the EXE file, 1.03 changed SOMETHING and broke even that... :/

Edit* ok WTF, i ran steam through my side click menu "run as..." then tried starbound and it launched...gave me an access violation and crashed...this is how i played before useing the EXEs, then i relaunch it and dont get the access violation the 2nd attempt... 2nd attempt launhced fine no problems... omg *facepalm*

Maybe a stupid question but: Are all drivers up to date? (especially the video driver)

Not a stupid question, my old as dirt video card a geforce 8400GS has as updated drivers as it can get. Newer Navidia drivers dont support it im pretty sure >_>

The latest driver version i found for your card is version 340.52 (Jul 29, 2014) So i assume you have it already installed.
Is the output for 1.1.1 for steam and non-steam launch the same as above?
