I was just considering that I would quite fancy my farmer having his own birthday. In the beginning of the game (or at the beginning of the day if you already have a game going and this gets patched in) you should be able to select a birthday for yourself. It would be nice if everybody that had a full-heart relationship with you give you a small present (could be a flower, or a cooked meal, a geode, etc.) if you talk to them on your birthday...or at the very least your spouse could give you a nice present (like a ruby or some truffle oil, etc.) It would make me feel special and loved, and give you a reason to develop relationships with people beyond getting the achievements, or food recipes. If you could choose your birthday, what would it be and why? (mine would be Winter 10, because I was born Dec 10th)
While I don't like to compare Harvest Moon and SDV, one thing I did like about the HMs is that you could choose your birthday, and if your birthday fell on someone else's birthday, they would have an "alternate" bday. I think that would work pretty well in SDV and it'd be nice to get gifties and have a party with your friends/family. My birthday is March 29, so I would probably pick Spring 28. 3
A birthday for our farmer would actually be a really nice touch! I'd probably pick a day early in the spring. My real birthday is Feb 28 which is (usually) the last day of winter, but the last day of winter in this game is new year's eve so it wouldn't feel right to pick that day.
I had a completionist run where I got everyone maxed out at ten hearts. Aside from the recipes, and a low value gift in the mail once or twice a week, it really made no difference in the game. Hardly any significant dialogue changes, except for some of the marriage candidates. As of now there isn't much incentive to engage with the other villagers because they hardly reciprocate (unless you just enjoy giving for the sake of giving). A birthday, maybe a surprise party when you complete the CC; there's lots of ways this dynamic could be improved.
Adding a player birthday would be awesome, and I like the idea that maybe you'd get a little surprise party. It would also, on that same token, be super cool if you could throw surprise parties for the NPCs, even if it were jus for high heart friends. (Maybe you can right now? I'm not that far into the game. Anyway.) Edit: My birthday would be Fall 28, as close as you can get to my RL bday.
Love the idea of a surprise party - probably in the CC once it's restored. Maybe your kids (if you have them) could give you something simple, like a little flower or mushroom? One of my favorite things about Stardew Valley is that new updates are still being pumped out, so there's a lot of potential in the future for new events and features. Love the thought of your husband/wife getting you some truffle oil for your birthday.
