As long as it isn't TOO time consuming, I'm fine with it. Terraria's gardening & alchemy was kind of grindy, and Minecraft annoyed me with stuff not growing when it wasn't in a loaded chunk.

It could also be really interesting. What if there was a plant NPC that you could plant and grow? (Actually, nevermind, that may be too fantasy-y, plus there are already Floran.) Either way, there are a lot of possibilities. There must be some kind of aggressive plants I can grow so I can plant and use them as guards on the most hostile planets. >:D

    Oh, and
What if there were randomly generated achievements? ;D

People have added Chunk Loaders via mods, and you don't have to stay in the chunk, the chunk just needs to be loaded. Since a chunk is rather small in MC, crops grow all the time unless the chunk unloads itself which only happens when you go to the Nether, or you go like 50+ chunks away. I'm pretty sure the Starbound Dev's aren't going to make it so you have to stay right near the crops for them to grow. Maybe on the same planet but you probably aren't going to need to micro manage them.

That would still be a terrible pain. I'm planning on terraforming an entire planet to a greenhouse, which means I can't venture out if I expect anything to grow... >:

Yeah. I guess we'll have to see how they go about it. Maybe they'll make something you can place down that will keep a planet loaded for you when you leave the planet. Because if they keep every planet loaded all the time that would start getting a bit heavy on a PC memory, even if it is a bit more basic then a 3D game, it still takes a bit of power per planet, and that stacks.

So here's hoping they figure it out.

Edit: Haha. Spawnah below me mentioned one of the Dev's saying something about it.

Bartwe said in one of his streams that plants will still grow when you're not around. Kind of. What happens is the plants will detect how much time has passed since you were last around, then do all of the growing it would have done at once, had you been there.

Edit: I don't remember exactly what he said, but that's the gist of it.

Now that you mention it I can recall that being said on the IRC 2 or 3 days ago, so hurray for that!

I think I suggested something like this earlier in the thread. IMO it's the easiest way to deal with the situation, glad that's the way they decided to go with it.

Oh god.... all the achievements o_O Need to prepare my soul for this.

Also maybe its possible you can build a crop monitor to see the progress of yer crops or some other kind of system, would be lovely....
Start a whole productive corporation across the galaxy, while destroying some of it along the way with lethally mutated eggplants.
    aaaaaaah, the farm life. ^.^

I love farming things way too much @_@ Good ones, though; not Facebook ones. I long for video footage of this.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet, but.. Champions Online has something like 713 if memory serves >_> Seriously. 713. I don't even..

Quite true, though last I heard a lot of them don't work. Even so I think it would still have more working achievements than any other game on Steam.

actual farming? - nothing feels better than relaxing after a hard day at work milking the cows and getting blue milk.

then again im just guessing as i have never did anything even close to farming.
