I think Homestuck had a good quote on this.

    Went something like this:

The longer we wait, the more we learn about cool features, the more I grow impatient, the more I'm reminded that the longer the game takes to be developped, the more awesome it will be when released.

Also, space brocolies are the best.

The ultimate thing to grow in a level 100 Starbound farm is.... a 3rd dimension

Why grow 2-Diminsional crops when you can grow a 3-Diminsional one?...That would be madness to make...

A 3 dimensional plant in a 2 dimensional universe...would be a bitch to cultivate properly, not to mention an entire dimension.

Now that I think of it though...Who says we arn't some plant in another Universe's garden? What if we are nothing but a piece of data in a game, unknown to anyone?

Then I'm thoroughly disappointed that the game I'm living in is not Starbound.

To be completely honest, our graphics are better and at least we are out of Beta already. Imagine how much it would suck if you lagged towards your morning coffee.

You remind me of an old buddy of mine, we used to discuss how powerful God's computer had to be for the world to have such realistic graphics and smooth FPS :rofl::rofl: though I have to say it's more of a morning Pepsi for me.

But yeah, you're right. Even when the main quest's objectives are rather unclear and gameplay sometimes gets quite hard and grindy, there are a lot of awesome mini-games.
No to mention, multiplayer is really good ;)

    And don't forget:
    - Insanely high FPS
    - Virtually no lag
    - No load times
    - State of the art ragdoll physics

Unfortunately, there's a very steep learning curve, and there doesn't appear to be any respawn except if you picked 'Buddhist' or 'Hindu' as your religion.

I think real life is rated AO, most stores won't sell it.

Actually, if you pick those religions, the only way to win the game is to not respawn anymore.
Hmm... I wonder how that would work as a core game objective. Kinda like that You Only Live Once flash game, but in reverse.

If real life isn't rated AO, then it certainly should.
I've seen things you wouldn't believe.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

However, is not respawning winning? I guess it would be a game with a scoreboard, and the more successful a life the better your score per life. Highest total score is leaderbord leader.

You should be able to grow game copies.
Plants should have 'quality'. Low quality foods could poison you, extreme quality could buff you.
If you sell 'low quality' game copies, two giant letters 'EA' could come as a boss fight, and throw zombies at your farm.

  18. Blazerer

    Blazerer Void-Bound Voyager

    I second this greatly.

As for quality, I advice you to read Sarazael's topic on the matter, it's quite extensive and includes the idea of crops having quality, which can be enhanced through cross-breeding.

Turns out the human eye can see in roughly 300 "FPS"

Just a useless fact you'll probably never use. Back on topic, I think once you find and catalog a plant you can get DNA samples from it and, with a little elbow grease, you can clone it. The clones can be cloned but will not reproduce naturally, in other words they will not drop plantable seeds, maybe useless shrivelled up seeds, like my useless shrivelled up facts.

The human eye might be able to "see" 300 frames/sec, but the eye-brain connection, and the brain itself, can't process information that fast. A 60Hz refresh rate for most computer applications is quite fluid to our brain.
