Can I be a hillbilly farmer, sitting on the front porch in a rocker chair pumping my shotgun?

Or it be like Minecraft where you sit and watch then BAM MOTHER NATURE IS ALL UP IN YOUR FACE AS YOUR WHEAT GROWS AN AMAZING ONE PIXEL!

It's just as fun as watching grass grow.

  6. This discussion reminds me when I tried to 'water' my crops in Minecraft by emptying a bucket of water on them...

Chances are if they worked like that then farming wouldnt be worth it, as most people like to keep a food source nearby to their place. Such a development would require someone to put their farm far away in order to access it. Something which Im sure Starboun devs wouldnt try to have happen :p

That said, crops will grow in stages. If we're lucky, they may add multiple ways of giving them water, such as a pipe drip, acqueduct/river watershed system, wateringcan. -w-

Well that's true and all but I kinda wonder if they are trying to put too much into the game.

your not always going to be at your base.
it grows when your out on missions, exploring caves e.c.t

so in other words it prevents you from loitering around waiting for it to grow.

As long as they don't force you to consider everything at the same time, it doesn't hurt to have more content. For the player, at least. For the devs, well...
You can just disable hunger and ignore crop growing (unless crops work for something else too).

If anyone has played the russian game "The Void"/"Тургор", they'll know what I mean. It was a beautiful game with fun mechanics and an original concept, but it was unrewardingly hard (at least for me) because there was one too many things you had to consider at once.

As I've joked about on other threads I think Tiy making his "ultimate game" "perfect game" or whatever he said the first part of the year will end up making a confusing mash-up that never gets "finished".
My first real coding experience was attempting to make a program that you could "talk" to that would respond to anything you said...so naive I was.

I just hope farming doesn't become a central part of Starbound. That being mandatory would take some fun right out of it*, but, it'd still be worth it.

Alright then, take Minecraft for example. What if they decided to make you press Q and E in order to walk forward, (left foot right foot) or take it a step forward and require you to press F occasionally to breath, maybe even have it so that every now and then the screen "blinks" as if it were eyes, maybe you can get dehydrated, it SOUNDS silly but the point I'm making is, I worry that they are going to add too much to keep track of.

Hadn't you said the same against Realism before? That's quite the polyfunctional argument you've got there . Don't worry, I agree with you for the most part. I believe it's more a matter of how they handle it all rather than how much they put in. Just like with hunger, they could make it so you cold ignore the farming mechanic altogether.
They did say money would be very important in this game; maybe in-game NPC traders could provide for all those things you didn't want to do yourself, so you could focus on combat for example, then sell the drops, then buy farm-related products, etc, just like in real life, where you don't have to be a jack-of-all-trades to survive. This way, they could add all the non-mandatory game mechanics they wanted without overwhelming the players.

    Hey Ghostar?

Super Smash Bros Brawl. An example of feature stuffing that went unbelievably well. :) So it can work both ways. But i get what your saying.
