Do you farm? Collect seeds or plants? Here is my little farm moved off my ship to a home planet when I realized they would grow while I was in game and not on the planet. I collect recipes and farm to craft the recipes which are much better at healing than anything else. Feel free to post pictures of farms, plants, seeds here. My most recent find was avesmingo seed, not sure that I have all the others yet. And I can't figure out what crystal plants are for..but I keep growing them anyway
I recently just made this farm that I'll post a screenshot of below this paragraph of text. I wanted to finally do some serious farming instead of a little tiny farm (which this thread inspired me to do). Currently my farm is set up for me to be able to make sushi, ricecake, and fruit salad. Which require neonmelon (fruit salad), kiwi (fruit salad), grapes (fruit salad), rice (ricecake, sushi), avesmingo (sushi), and wartweed (sushi).
Nice farms! Never thought to add turrets for defence. My farm doesn't look as nice, and it's too big... probably 10+ more screen shots worth...
So, do you start having lag the more you plant? I have my farm on my home planet and I am noticing more lag especially when I plant a lot. My kid put up the turrets. We found a frog merchant somewhere with tons of dogs so I captured 3 of them. One is on my ship, this one is on my home planet but sometimes MIA and I find him wandering around. For wheat farmers - do you notice sometimes when you harvest you get two wheat seeds and no wheat? I have nearly 300 wheat seeds but I am constantly consuming the wheat in recipes. I like to farm every seed I find even if I don't know of a recipe for it. I found reefpod in a dungeon sewer container..really strange and only time I have seen it. I don't know what it is for. I also have dirturchin..same thing. My kid recently found an 'uncommon' recipe Roast Dinner - first of those I have seen. It is potato, avesmingo and raw alien meat. Oh..and what are crystal plant for?
aerithkm, sometime after the update to Enraged Koala, the farm on my home world suffered from a huge lag... so bad, that I ended up having to remove most of the crops. That seemed to fix the lag. Yes, I had a lot of plants growing... submitted it to the bug reporting thread and haven't replanted anywhere near as much as I had previously. Yep on the wheat, I also plant every seed found as well. I haven't planted the few crystal seeds found yet, and would like to know what they are for, too.
I've noticed the lag subsides somewhat when the large planting fields are "offscreen", or rather, far enough away that the computer doesn't have to worry about dealing with all the objects at max zoom-out. Aerithkm: Yeah, I've also noticed I pretty commonly get two seeds and no actual Wheat from each harvest. I think there was supposed to be a "you get extra seeds and no Wheat if you harvest it too early" feature, but I think it just wound up as a chance between that and 1 seed/1 wheat. Between that and the lag, I stopped bothering to plant wheat once I got a nice Hylotl chef to reside in my fortress and sell me bread (among other things) on demand. Also, I rather dislike getting bubbles or blood fired at me when I'm trying to harvest, so I've been doing all my farming underground for some time now. How do the rest of you deal with the annoying flying things that invariably spawn around above-ground farms? (Aerith, I noticed glass walls on your shot, so there's that. I might do the same in my base.) Oh, one other thing. I can't seem to find Mushroom, Pussplum, Pearlpea, or Wartweed seeds anywhere...
It took me a long time to find pussplum, pearlpea and wartweed. I think every race has its own seeds for its food that it starts with. I think those are Avian? I did eventually find them. You can plant mushrooms? I have found mushrooms on my current planet and can 'mine' them but I can't replant them I don't think. I always farm underground..sometimes I start above ground but then start creating layers underneath the first one by one underground. I put the glass walls up because I had this belief that my Floran bio lights helped my plants grow and they needed something to stick to, plus I had a glass greenhouse in Terraria with glass walls sort of similar. Edit: This is my new farm relocated to a mushroom biome. I have a Floran chef (used to be Apex I thought..not sure what happened but maybe the Apex died), an Avian merchant, a Glitch guard, a Floran villager and two Agaran merchants. I recall that some of the seeds I found that I never found on a biome were actually in random places inside chests. The coolest looking crop I have seen so far is reefpod. I don't even know what it is used for but it looks cool when it grows. I found it on a lev 10 planet pretty far underground sewage biome in a chest (random and weird). The other strange seed I have is dirturchin. I think I am going to work on a post with all my plants and seeds but that will take a bit.
Ok, I am putting this on a new post because it has a lot of info I just gathered up. It is an inventory of most of my seeds but I am in between switching home planets so I see that I have lost a chest of seeds somewhere because I know I have more. This is what my farm looks with an assortment of some crops growing: From left to right, top to bottom: Pineapple, Sugar Cane, Boneboo, Chili, Banana, Coralcreep, Oculemon, Reefpod, Pussplum, Dirturchin,Pearlpea, Wartweed, and Feathercrown. Inventory of some other seeds: Left to right, top to bottom: Wheat, Crystalplant, Chili, um..pineapple I think, Sugarcane, Banana, BoneBoo, Corn, Coralcreep, Avesmingo, Eggshoot, Oculemon, Wartweed, Pearlpea, Feathercrown and Dirt Urchin. I also have but not enough room here and I misplaced some of them: Neon melon, potato, carrot, grapes, tomato. I think that is it so far.. Next question: what recipes do you make? I am assuming most people farm to make recipes..that is what I do. I also check every bookcase of every village seeking recipes as much as treasure! Here's what I have: The only thing not listed here is Automato Stew which is what you see when you scroll down. I guess these are like 'snacks/appetizers/salad" if I eat the Floran race food it is ok but if I eat other race in this category it barely does anything for me at level 10. The Chucklefish staff must like desserts..this is my biggest collection. Not shown but on my list: Hot Bone, Black Current Crumble, Banana Bread, Avesmingo Ice Cream. I don't have anything in chocolate bar, drink or question category. What is your favorite food? I like to make and try most of it but the Roast Dinner does great for healing and the only 'uncommon' recipe I have found. Black Current Crumble also heals well and does the 'burn' imbue. Ingredients I am still looking for: Toxictop Candy Alien Rib Meat
Farming is great, but I've also had super lag since the last update due to the number of crops on screen. I don't feel so bad about ripping them all up now that my backpack is crammed full of tasty treats ~: )
Nice! My own seed bank is pretty extensive, too, tho it's currently divided roughly half-and-half between my planet and a few lockers on my ship. I have some of each seed in both places, just in case my planet is lost or corrupted somehow. Seed list: Reefpod, Feathercrown, Corn, Rice, Kiwi (need more), Tomato, Wheat, Boltbulb, Boneboo, Coralcreep, Pussplum (i found some!), Currentcorn, Pineapple, Oculemon, Neonmelon, Chili, Dirturchin, Beakseed, Automato, Diodia, more Boltbulbs (oops), Grapes, Eggshoot, Sugarcane, Banana, Toxictop, Carrot. All my potato and avesmingo seeds are up on the ship, apparently. Heh, I've dug around for as many recipes as I can get my hands on. Hopefully the (eventual) addition of Human and Hylotl towns will fill all the holes in my recipe list. What I usually make for Gatsby's travel food is burgers, as bread and alien meat are pretty easy to get in quantity, and it provides healing in addition to a full belly. I also have lots of Veggie Soup, lots of Banana Bread, and some Hot Bone. Haven't found the Roast Dinner recipe yet tho, unfortunately. Lots of spare recipes (mostly of Glitch origin thus far) are being archived in my library, along with various codexes. I found some Toxictop plants growing wild on one of the forest planets within a few parsecs of my home base (Alpha Tiy 53 VI d, -45452798, -39132748), tho I can't remember which one exactly. 'Course, trading's always possible too, if you're interested Apart from the stuff that's still nigh-impossible to find in game (milk, fish, rib meat, etc) I'm looking for seeds of: - Crystal Plant - Wartweed - Pearlpeas - more Kiwis (i have only a very few) Candy is apparently made from 3 Sugars, but I don't have the recipe myself, and none of the USCM bases I've pillag-- er, visited, have had it mixed into their sparse reading material.
Yes, I am open to trade. I have crystal plant, wartweed, pearlpeas and kiwi. I find milk in Apex refrigerators in the Apex apartments. I have never seen fish nor rib meat.
Arr, excellent. PM inbound. I guess I'm not looking in the right places, I've only found one Apex village in my travels. (I did also find a couple rainbow biomes with Apex rebel monks in odd outfits, but they seem a bit too ascetic to have fridges.) Yeah, me neither. Oh well, 'tis still a beta after all.
