Farm not growing.

I've planted two plots of farm, a small one in my ship and a large one on a planet.

After many many many harvests in my ship, the plants on the planet have yet to grow beyond seedling.

Is this a bug? Or my climate is wrong? Planted them in a forest biome with lots of rain.

Are you saying you're only getting seeds or that they havent visually changed? If they just aren't changing I don't know what to tell you but if you are only harvesting seeds from them its because you shouldn't break them, you need to press E to pick up whatever it is that has grown.

 

They didn't visually change. It's basically stuck at seedling level. Nope, didn't break them as seed or adult.

Do they need direct sunlight? Open air? What are the citerias for successful growth?

 

Mine are just on a strip of land outside, not covered nothing, next to my house and it seems to work. What does your farm look like?

 

It's tiered like a multi-storey farm in Terraria

 

I think some seeds only grow on specifiy ground.
I have seen atomatoes growing on sand in the deserts... they did not start growning when I planted them on mud

 

Have you tried just growing them outside just to see if it was a glitch in the game? Or just on this planet rather?

 

I have this exact same problem, no plants/fruits grow anywhere.

 

I would imagine they need to be outside, I haven't had any problems with my garden. It's outside without a roof in a jungle biome. I grow bananas and wheat exclusively. Thats about all the help I can give I think :/

 

I think certain plants require certain conditions to grow faster/grow at all, but the basic seeds you start with should be able to grow just about anywhere, as long as you find soil to plant them in. (although certain seeds might do better in sand?)

 

Out of the crops I've found. Coralcreep, Kiwi, Boneboo, Wheat, and Feathercrown, grow just fine. As for Toxictops and chilis I can't get them to grow. Two chili plants grew in my entire time playing the beta so far, they all have stayed seeds otherwise. The toxictops have stayed seeds. I've been planting the chilis in the same spot and nothing has changed so I don't know why those two grew that one time. As for the toxictops I just either would like to know if it is a bug or if I am missing something. I want to cook them up, Floran Delicacy, burning eyeballs, yum. =D

Does the colour of the dirt affect growth?

 

I have a multi-story wheat farm underground, with no water. And it all seems to grow pretty damn quick.
Try putting a roof over the farm. I think the rain might be slowing it down.

 

As far as I can tell, crops on a planet won't grow while you're not actually on that planet. Time spent in space or on other worlds won't count as long as no player is actually on your farmworld.

This is all anecdotal and could very well be wrong, however, at the time I am stating this it is what I believe to be true based on personal observations.

 

The starter plants (like wheat) will grow almost anywhere, so I'm not sure if that's a fair test.
