To The Devs: If you think this is too much spoiler-wise or you simply don't want it out there, then just hit me up with a message and I will remove it from this thread as well as destroy its very existence by throwing it into the depths of my messy hard drive.

Okay, so as you might already know from my post on this thread. I am attempting to re-create the Monster Generator that the devs must use to create the mobs that you see in game as well as the ones they post every Friday. (Also stored in this thread.)

To do this I have used the sprites that EpisilonEagle256 has kindly provided to me, he has cut them from the currently generated mobs and separated them into the different monster parts. (Heads, Legs, etc.). Basically he has done all the hard work for me, I simply threw them into a program with a little gml code and boom.

I also made it so that there is an option for no tails in the small version and no arms in the tall version, this is not a glitch. I just think it makes them look funny.

    Tall Monster Generator:

    Windows Version:

    Small Monster Generator:

    HTML Version:

    Windows Version:

    -------------------------EDIT-------------------------------------
I wont be updating this for a while, working on my own game, as well as studying for exams.

    Current issues:

Colours, Colors, Colours. Currently I have no Idea how to edit specific colors in gml (The programming language used in gamemaker) but I am sure I will figure it out in time.

Arms, Aurms, Arms. The arms in the Tall version confuse me, I am not sure whether they should be placed behind or in front of the bodies. I think I might need to re-create it with the left and right arms drawn separately.

Windows, Widows, Windows. The Windows version sometimes leaves tiny gaps between the sprites, not much I can do about this because its a Gamemaker error.

HTML: The html version requires WebGL to run, if you haven't got it activated in your browser then either use Firefox or download the windows version.

HTML: Lastly, sometimes the the window will load and just remain black, refresh to fix.

This is an awesome idea but won't the monster combinations be a bit limited at the moment?

    TheMurumasa Existential Complex

Yeah they are very limited when compared to the in-game one.
But currently for the Tall monster generator there are 9 arms, 9 bodies, 14 heads, and 9 legs, that makes 10,206 varieties. Wait, is that right? Jesus.

Plus colours when they come out, so a lot more :p

Don't think it is possible to change specific colours in a sprite in gml. Without changing the color or the whole sprite that is. Could make sprites for all colour combinations but that would be extremely tedious. Just thinking out loud here really.

  6. niiiiiiiiiice..... why use gamemaker though? I think it would be much better to ise something like FlashPlayer. I guessi could, but im not very experienced with it.

I think this thread needs a bump...

  11. If you email me the sprites, i'll whack together a crude flash version, with coloring. but colour them in your self, so then you can have what colors you want. I could do it without that but it would be less customisable, and a lot of detail/transparency would be lost. But talk to me on e-mail: s.t.a.r.b.o.u.n.d.rockslikemad@gmail.com . I just made that for this. BUt e-mail me, and ill tell you in more detail

You could just PM him this.

Also, if you can make a crude flash version, why not make the parts colour themselves?

    9 x 9 x 9 x 14 = 10,206. Yup :)

Also, couldn't you make your own body parts for the generator?

  17. TheMurumasa

    TheMurumasa Existential Complex

I could, yes. In fact I have been really tempted to while I was making it, but I think I should keep it legit for now.

This is pretty cool, nice work.

As a coder I was interested on how this works, but now I see, its basicly just a lot of sprites for different body parts, along with position data for where they are I assume?
