Something just doesn't seem right about being able to survive being buried under tons of gravel and sand and walk away without a scratch on you.
On one hand "Yea, it should". On the other hand...I'm having way too much fun screwing around with it as is
It is fun the way it is now, but it is also fun when you can drop a ton of gravel on top of your buddy below you and kill him.
Although an oxygen timer might be okay, damage wouldn't be, because it's actually fun to trigger a massive cave-in by mistake and still survive.
fun should trump realism in this subject. i choose to believe the armour we craft is strong enough to resist the dirt/gravel. i would ask that snow work the same way for some avalanch action
You already have an oxygen timer if you're trapped under sand. IT just is hard to notice since it's so easy to break out. As for this, I think it's a horrible idea. The game's deadly enough as it is.
Yes, if you're buried above your head, you get an oxygen bar, but you just have to swing your pickaxe a time or two, and you're free. But come on, you shouldn't take damage, I love being able to bury my buddies to the neck when they go afk on desert planets. It's hilarious.
I don't think it should outright hurt you. That would be frustrating; it was one of the most frustrating mechanics of Terraria for example. I think an oxygen timer is a neat idea and a viable compromise, but hurting you outright is just an unpleasant idea and would make for some really obnoxious mining when you have those moments of sand cave-ins.
I don't see why everyone's complaining about sand-alanches. Just keep jumping up and you always stay above the falling sand, AND falling sand blocks drop any ore they had in them, so it's an easy way to quickly get resources. Plus it's more fun than several barrels of monkeys.
In theory enough Sand would hurt but as a Gameplay mechanic it's MUCH more fun to actually use it. It does cause damage when it pulls me into a pit of monsters and i die laughing. If you are completely covered it does bring up the breath timer.
Sand Is fine the way it is. Best mining ever. I goto desert planets for mining often, and I love it when I find underground gravel pits. AAAAH Yeah Can't express my glee for that unending.
I love avalanches! And sure they can hurt if you avalanche into a ravine or really tough monsters land on your head.
