Here's how it goes... Some races will form factions (Humans could have the U.S.C.M. and less organized pirate gangs, private business companies, etc.) and build cities, strongholds, mining outposts, trading stations, space stations, etc. throughout certain areas. These territories will be highlighted on your Star Map (Perhaps the U.S.C.M. areas are surrounded in blue, and the Avains territories are surrounded in yellow, etc.) and, depending on the race, they will expand as the game progresses. Sometimes the factions will be peaceful and want to trade, or some of the factions will expand and try to conquer the universe (Ex: Pirates will burn/ransack NPC Villages, military organizations will take over NPC Villages, maybe by building fences around them, use patrolling guards, etc.). You may even see factions land and take over the planet you are on while you are exploring it! With this idea, not everyone will be friendly. Some factions will rage war with each other, eventually taking over each other's property. You may even come to a planet to see that there is a battle being waged (And when the space battle update comes, you can see NPC space battles taking place). Also, wouldn't it be cool to be able to make your own faction? I know that you can build NPC spawners, but maybe you can hire mercenaries, or join a faction, etc. Tell me what you think!
I like the idea of making your own faction, especially. Since a friend and I have been playing strictly Co-Op, it'd be a lot of fun to try and dominate the universe. Also, Avians are pirates. I'm not sure what Pirating and Egypt have in common, but I've only ever found Avian pirates.
Once we get PvP, we'd probably join a server and wage war on everyone... Oh man, that sounds so fun. We would probably try and wage war on each other, but we kind of... are well... pretty bad at commanding more than just our friend group when we're separate. If we ever did try and take over the a server, the only thing we could possibly name ourselves would be "Reapers."
Once you play Mass Effect, you can't not reference it when playing any other space game at least once. [Or be me and reference it any time I can.]
