Have proposal: What about extremal planets that is very hot or very cold? These planets should be uninhabitable and hard to explore. Player should wear special suit to land on them. It will be so funny and very amazing to explore. Extremal conditions aren't only hot or cold. Planets could be without atmosphere or with toxic atmo. May be atmosphere have a big pressure (like our Venus) and require special exoskeleton suit to avoid death. I'll try to categorize all conditions and format it in this post.
I love this idea! Someone (Exxon) posted a mock-up star map image a couple of days ago (I believe) that suggested planets with extremely cold conditions, but I was just thinking of extremely hot conditions, and special suits would be amazing for this! The proximity to the native star could effect this, i.e. planets close to the star would have extremely high temperatures with little fluctuation, and those further would have the opposite effect. Also, perhaps atmospheric conditions, like mid to high level planets having acid rain, snowstorms, or sandstorms, in varying frequencies.
Maybe sunlight so hot it burns you, so you can only venture out wt night. You add a time keeping item to see day\night cycle on current planet.
AHH! glad I looked before posting a new thread! I'd love this and actually thought that this would actually be a thing already in starbound. More biomes, of course. Different atmospheres - so you would need environmental suits and stuff to not choke to death on toxic air. similar to how you kinda need leather armour to navigate cold planets, just expand further on this. NO atmospheres - not sure how popular this would be but some planets just flat out having no breathable air so you gotta make space suits and stuff! Hot planets - opposite to cold. you burn to a crisp. either having suits that reflect the heat, reduce the time ti takes to boil and make it so you gotta dig underground to get out of the searing heat of the sun. these could be fun things to explore and the trade off being that the surface of these planets contain hard to get materials. Aquatic Planets - as mentioned by LOTS of people. planets that are pretty much entirely submerged in water or other liquids. say liquid methane and what not. So you would need diving suits or oxygen tanks that you wear on your back but might also need some protection from the poison in there too. Meteor showers - if these don't exist already, raining rocky death from the skiiiies!! more interesting weather effects - so, snow to make you EVEN bloody colder, sand storms that reduce visibility, winds that might cause you to move slower in one direction but faster in another, (apply this to water in the form of currents, too) maybe tornados too? lightning storms or even ion storms that stop your teleporter from working until it passes. (could be a pain in the arse but also adds to the challenge in a potentially interesting way) acid rain as someone mentioned, earthquakes? list could go on. I think planets being more interesting is definately one of the key aspects of the game that needs working. exploration is the main thing and obviously, the more varied and interesting it is, the better it will be to explore.
and planets with no oxygen, you'll need to build or buy a oxygen mask and a suit , you will need to will the oxygen tank in the suit to breathe in those planets
I believe i real varied condition of each planet will keep this game alive for years alone.. Nevermind all the awsome stuff we may find. Items required Oxygen tank Day n night clock Air purifier - possible terra forming Water transportation boat ect Any others peeps can think of
Perhaps even needing to build some kind of airlock if we were to make a base on one of these planets or moons devoid of any atmosphere or oxygen. However I would imagine that Florans breath CO2 for some reason and exhale oxygen. (Note: bring Florans on your ship and you wont need oxygen tanks...Also note, make watch your back while they're aboard.) Just a suggestion.
I think the only problem with this would be if you have a space suit, what kind of stats would it have? You would also have to have several different tiers of suits, which would get rather tedious to make. I think a better solution would be to have accessories that would go in the back slot to combat the different hazardous planet environments.
i don't know, but making another tab on inventory screen ? to place the suit or another things (those suit can defend 1 or wathever)
I was just thinking of this as well. Would be great to see atmospheric diversity with planets as well. Low Gravity, gas filled planets, etc.
Already mentioned in another thread; http://community.playstarbound.com/...cks-and-space-suits-oh-my.52848/#post-1540470 However, I'm going to paste a part of my response since it's relevant "I agree with the OP in that every planet has 100% breathable atmosphere. Players have managed to mine out Asteroids and Meteors because they carry several dozen Camp Fires, I believe a Space Suit which provides minimal defence (5 per piece) but would give the wearer complete immunity from Suffocation and Freezing, which would be the two most prominent threats when in space ;P I think having uninhabitable planets (Due to their climate and oxygen levels) would be fantastic, since it would add a new level of danger when exploring an Alien planet, Players would need to establish a small Outpost on the planet whilst wearing a space suit. An Oxygen Machine could work similarly like a Torch providing Warmth, but will only when when it isn't in water (To disallow players from exploiting it)"
Cool ideas, everything that makes the game harder and makes you feel like a true explorer is welcome for me.
