Gas Giants...they're everywhere and yet all they do is make the planet icon on the nag computer bigger. I propose that it would be possible to fly into the gas giant and mine the gas and synthesize it as fuel.

Though mining wouldn't just be the only thing. There would be periodical lightning storms within the giant and may haps a living cloud or two? The lightning would often strike the ship in which the ship would take damage represented in a health bar near the player icon.

Another crazy and diabolical idea would be to ignite the gas giant causing a super nova like explosion, engulfing nearby planets and either resulting in a brown dwarf or a second sun. The ignition process would be caused by a type of bomb made up of impervium and molten cores getting launched from a mechanism like a jettison function accessed by the ship computer. Planets engulfed with the heat and radiation would turn into ash biomes with hazardous levels of solar radiation bringing the need of special sets of armor. To prevent the destruction of your ship there will be a timer before the bomb reaches the core so you can escape. (servers hosts may require an option turn this off in the options menu)

I like the whole idea of this, although i was thinking to make the game more intricate there could be like a smaller space ship you fly down to it in (since ships are gonna be really big soon) and 'mine' the gas through the ship. It would be alittle like a tech, in which you could customize/change the way youre smaller space ship looks and works, but not were you can put blocks in it.

Gas giants should, realistically, have more moons on the regular. In every example in the real world that we know of, Gas Giants are not just big, solitary planets. They are mini planetary systems, with a host of attendant moons that run the gamut from airless rocks to ice-balls to methane-ocean covered worlds. In a planetary system with a Gas giant in the so-called Goldilocks Zone, those moons might even be habitable like the planet from Avatar.

Turning a Gas Giant into another Star, although a semi-popular trope in science fiction, might be a bit beyond the level of power that the devs are going to give players in this game. And that's fair enough.

Overall, I agree entirely that the Gas Giants, as presented now, are boring and pointless. One cannot land on them, and they often don't even have any moons like they really should.

I think... the moons from dead space should be the inhabitants of gas giants.
