More enemies would be nice, and i always wanted an ammo system for the weapons, like managing bullets, clips, magazines, and cooling laser and plasma weapons. if there were an ammo system, i think a reload system could be implemented, somewhat similar to the one seen in the game Mercenary Kings, where you get a little reload animation, but also a little minigame where if you perform it correctly, the animation would speed up? i think this would be a good change, because i never liked how your guns would deplete your stamina bar.
I love how much variety is being put into things. I personally really love exploring in games, and now I get to explore even more. What I would really like to see is a completely procedurally generated dungeon, with all the rooms randomized.
If it wasn't because of the snow, I wouldn't see the problem in the first one. It doesn't look so odd. The second is the worst by far. It seems a bit strange, to have a camping in that hive sub-biome. Oh well... I don't see the problem with the third one. Do you pretend them to do a perfect transition by making blocks with gradually more snow in them? Or would you rather not have snow and forest in the same planet? The first solution would be too hard to implement. The second is worse, I don't see why a planet can't have a colder/snowy area...
- It doesnt look that odd on its own, no, but because its a snow planet, I would kinda expect... snow. - I don't expect a smooth transition. As said above, it is a snow world, so Id expect snow. The primary biome blocks should overwrite the subbiome. This is what I was talking about when I said smashing them together isn't really the way to go about this. What I would do is duplicate the forest biome, then adjust it to make it into a snow forest, which makes it fitting, while still upping the diversity of the planet. If that is what they plan to do, great. If not... well, I guess I have another mod idea.
How do I get the nightlies to work? I've deleted the game, re-installed, double checked that my universe folder is fresh, deleted all toon numerous times, but there's no change
you have to install it. On your steam listing, look for "Starbound - Unstable". Opt into the nightly, then install it. It is completely independent from the stable version.
You have to download the Starbound - Unstable game in Steam (it's a separate one, you should have it in your library). Then right-click, properties, betas, and select nightly. There you go. I think I don't have a problem with the third image. It has a lot to improve, but I don't see it that bad. What I really dislike is the idea of the every planet now becoming absolutley chaotic. That is, beaming down to a snow planet only to find a mess of different biomes that make absolute no sense. If it's just a couple of little biomes while still mantaining it's main biome as it should, it's ok for me. Anyway, if you improve it even more by a mod and you are generous enough to share it, please let us know
On the topic of biomes I would like to say that I still want there to be planets of almost completely one biome, just much more rare; and a good fix and - also something I would like to see - to making cohesive planets would be by adding an overlying sort of biome "modifier". Something like big spires all over the planet not just one biome. If you think of sub biomes as putting variety into biomes think of "modifiers" as putting something onto biomes. I would also like a stack button for chests that puts all of your resources on top of pre-existing stacks in your chest, yes like Terraria.
He means a button that automatically stacks all the resources of your inventory that are already into the container without having to shift-click them all. That would be helpful indeed... it gets a bit boring to do every time you come charged from an expedition and you've gotta save every item one by one.
Please tell me the inventory changes include the window not going back to its default position every time you open a container, that's like, my longest standing gripe.
hmmm... Might have to go check these out in a bit... That sounds like interesting news... Unsure what to make of the extra tab, as it wasn't a space problem but a sorting problem. Since when that tab it full, it didn't overflow. Unless that has changed... However having an extra tab is nice and another category, so that will do for now I guess. As to the biome thing, that like noted above; I will have to see it for myself. And probably will like it regardless. I don't mind the randomness, as there are stranger things even on earth that you would think class. Like desert right next to a forest. A sandy one at that. Of course that makes me think of the "Deadly Desert" in the movie "Return to Oz". Which I don't mind at all. I can understand not having ice and lava being mixed; that one really wouldn't make sense. Most the others do since we see that kind of stuff here on earth. Although there is volcanic and snow here on earth, but they are not pooling like venus. Regardless it will be a sight to see, or sight seeing I will have to do to make any sort of clear perspective of what was changed. I do have an idea of it, just have to confirm that is what is meant.
I want to see timezones. i think it would be relatively simple to set the clock back or forward slightly for each block traveled in a direction.
Eh... I guess I can imagine this being an issue, wouldn't it be solvable by adding a transition zone.... I think it would be relatively doable if you make a function of probability of each of the biome's features being selected where it is feasible that they would do so. This function could be as simple as a linear interpolation between the two biomes, and it determines the probability of say, a tree from the forest biome showing up surrounded by a desert biome, something that totally happens. It should also end up creating patchy sections of terrain, where the features are mixed together. Idk, I write a fair amount of code, but nothing even a little like this, so this is merely my idea for creating something like a transition.
I also would like to advocate for a Terraria-style autosort button for item storage. It happens a lot of times where my friends and I come back to our home base after exploring and we have a devil of a time finding where we've already put stuff, so even if we go to all the tedious trouble of shift-clicking every item in our inventory on every chest in our base, we miss stuff and end up having everything scattered completely at random in multiple stacks of like, twenty. It makes for a very crowded closet and it makes it even harder to find stuff later because we have no idea if we have any more lying around and we're just missing it, or what. The one solution we've found is to just completely tear down the whole room and then let picking up the mess sort it all. On a side note, this might just be me but sometimes I find my chests a bit of an unreadable jumble. Maybe don't pack the chest UI so densely? Maybe use multiple pages/tabs for bigger chests...or, if you really hate yourselves, redraw every last item for bigger inventory icons (don't do this to yourselves).
More than one biome per planet. I never thought I'd see the day. Excellent! To those who complain about combinations that "don't make sense": You know that even here on regular Earth we have like, hot springs and volcanoes that come up north of the Arctic Circle right? It's not a bad thing for a universe full of alien planets to sometimes upset your expectations. Come on.
I love the multiple biome aspect, it makes it way more interesting while exploring. I do agree with some peoples ideas that certain biomes don't mix, which I think can be solved by making the more contrasting biomes much less likely aka lava and ice would be rare, though possible.
