Expansion packs and possible contents

Since we all know they can't put much more content into Starbound until release (except we want to wait another year), I was thinking if there will be expansion packs/bigger updates which bring new content and, what I am especially aming for, new features.

I am still hoping that we will get new ship designs/classes and be able to build starbases. Or maybe there will be space pirates/aliens which try to board our ship and we have to fight (inside the ships). Maybe even a space combat system or some exploration sites (e.g. "You just found an abandoned planet/starbase/asteroid. The highly evolved civilization has been annihilated by their own creation (AI, Zombies, Mutations etc.), and it is highly dangerous to explore this location, better get your friends for this." - but there lie very advanced technologies hidden like the mentioned ships designs or vehicles/fighting mech pets and other interesting things).

Plus, I am a big fan of upgrades (weapon, armor, modules for those (night vision and so on), ship), the more complicate, the better :)

Besides, I wanted you to ask for some ideas and stuff you would like to see in Starbound.

Trust me, you won't run out of content with this game, they didn't make a game, they made a big adventure engine! This game allows fast addition of content and full mod support, minecraft has a ton of fun mods right? And that's without even an API, with all of the mods breaking with every patch, this game is going to be infinite just because of how easy it is to add stuff to it.

As for what I want, I want a truly hardcore survival experience, with intense planetary conditions and enemies that can kill you instantly if you don't know what you're doing. I really like difficult games like dark souls and would love if this game had a grim and hard survival mode to it. Example, you get on a planet that literally burns to ashes during days, or to a planet where lifeforms are gigantic and deadly, and so on. Food and water would play a huge role in it too.

That's really the only thing I want from this game, it is very atmospheric and there is going to be a lot of content, I just want it all to be more realistic/difficult so I will constantly be at edge. I would probably play it on hardcore so that each new character would have his own crazy adventure, saves and second chances aren't fun.

Also, there won't be any DLCs or Expansion packs, you will most probably see some huge updates, but nothing that you will have to pay for.

@warcore : why doesn't it? Terraria got expanded a lot after release, so does minecraft. Terraria is the closest to this game, and it's proof it works.
If you meant "paying DLC", then yes, I do think this wouldn't work well.

It's been stated that Starbound will continue to be expanded after release, for free. Which is how I like it. Once you're playing on a multiplayer server you really don't want a separation between players who bought the expansion and players who didn't.

Well, Starbound isn't an MMO... That's probably why.

Tiy already stated that he is against paid DLCs, micro-transactions and stuff. That's an integral part of Starbound awesomeness.

DLC is the devil and the destruction of modern gaming.

You are naive and a fool for thinking so. DLC is neither evil nor destructive, as long as the people making it don't use it to evil ends. DLC can be done quite well, and can truly improve on a game that was rushed out of the box or had more potential development.

    TL;DR
The game will get updates after release, and no expansions or DLC's

Eh, Gearbox did well with Borderlands one and two. might want to change that implied "all" to "most".

Tiy said he wants people to have the complete game when they buy it. He dislikes the idea of DLCs, Micro-transactions and all those things. He also said that he wanted to keep releasing updates post-release until Chucklefish moves on to a new game

I am also heavily against DLC, though I may have been just affected too much by too many games where DLC is just 'get simple, nifty or overpowered stuff by sending us money!' or 'Well, want this plotline actually developed? The content that's already in the base game but needs a few lines of code to be unlocked available? Send us plenty of cash!'.

Other than that, I don't see any reason for this thread to exist. People already write what they want to see in game, be it base one or future updates - in the suggestions subforum. It's really hard to miss. And we also already know that devteam promised development of the game after initial release, with free updates and bugfixing.

However, the game won't be ditched like Terraria! They will have a dedicated team working on it at all times ^^

i won't change it because it's my honest opinion. i can't stand DLC and i think it's destroying the gaming economy. (along with these $60+ per game prices)
