Sorry if this has been posted before, I looked through each of the suggestions and as far as I was aware, no one came up with this idea. The best way to explain this idea would be with an example. Say you come across a planet that is literally just a rock. Minimal water sources, no life of any kind, low gravity. You leave the planet and return several in-game days later. The water sources have expanded somewhat, there is a slight increase in gravity and a few plants have started to grow, but ultimately it's still quite bland. You leave again but don't come back until a few in-game weeks later. Suddenly, there are vast water sources, the planet has started to be habitable for both flora and fauna, and there is normal gravity. Essentially, you have witnessed the birth of a planet. You decide to live on the planet, but as you start to build a base the temperature of the planet plummets. Only planets and animals adapted for these cold environments survive, and the ones that don't slowly die off. Not willing to risk the same fate, you leave the planet for quite some time. Eventually, you find your way back to the planet, and it has changed once again. The cold environment has been replaced by a tropical one, and the species of plants and animals that thrived in the cold weather are now struggling, while others better adapted for the new environment are thriving. Basically, what I'm getting at is there could be a planet (or more, if it isn't too difficult to code) that is constantly changing, which also changes which plants, animals and possibly resources are available to the player. It could be optional having it start as a barren planet (I added that because I thought people would think it'd be cool to watch a planet being born), but that's really up to the developers to decide. Well, if they choose to use this idea, that is.
I would love this idea!! In fact I think ALL planets should change as a normal real life planet might. My only suggestion is that some planets start out barren like you said and it's up to the player to fertilize the soil and open waterways for plants so that the change you make in the planet will reward you! But you have to work hard at it! But the rewards in the end will be something like new monsters new plants and tons of other things! I'm excited, I hope this gets put in the game!!!
See? This is what i mean. All the GOOD threads with ACTUALLY GOOD IDEAS get buried underneath a mountain "We needz thingy". My guess is that some level 100 planets will be like this, but in full speed. So the changes will happen WHILE you are in the planet. Good luck dealing with sudden mountais, oceans, monsters, climate, earthquakes...
I'm glad you guys like the idea. If you think of something to add to it/that needs changing about it, feel free to say.
I wouldn't like the idea because if i had worked on a planet for FOREVER and then it changed... i would feel really sad
sounds like a good idea. maybe after a serten amount of time thought the planet stabilizes so you don't have to worry about losing your hard work. or better yet you have to make a stabilizer
Well you would be working on it for awhile but everything you do makes the planet change a little bit every time so it's not a sudden change but a gradual one. So, if you liked your planet a certain way (and not too complex) you could just stop working on it and enjoy what you have, but you wouldn't get the higher level loot and the higher level monsters.
