Every Ocean worlds weather is rain and thunderstorms

I'm looking for an Ocean world to build on, wanting the tropical scenery. The first one I just found featured weather: Rain and Thunderstorm so I moved on looking for one with the Sun icon.

I went on to check 15 different Temperate Systems featuring around 14 Ocean worlds and every single Ocean world only had Rain-Thunderstorm with not a single Sun. http://starbounder.org/Ocean lists the weather chances at "80% Clear (Sun) 10% Rain 10% Storms" - I know the wikis are often out of date but who knows.

Was the Sun icon simply removed from the "Weather" information at the nav console and it's sunny just as much as it rains? Or is this a known issue where every ocean world rains all the time/new from the update?

    Thanks.

I can't remember a time in Starbound's history where any planet type ever had an icon in the weather list representing clear weather. The chance for clear weather is always implied.

Ocean planets only have rain and thunderstorms periodically. When they do have one it's actually quite peaceful and pretty in its own right.

Still hoping for the weather control system they promised loooooong time ago. It would solve so many problems. Living on an Ocean planet, I really miss this option. More rain and strom than sunshine...

From as long as I remembered, it always rained a lot on ocean planets.

Yea I've been vetting Ocean worlds to build on, and every single one I've spent time on has rained every single day. I get that the rain is a nice change of pace for this environment, but this is ridiculous. It's at best 50/50 sun/rain. This world type definitely needs tuning, should be 95/5 sun/rain...

    Weird.
Going by files, I can say that there is only a 20% chance of rains, and yet they're nearly constantly for me too, or it looks so at least. I could try and cook up a fix if I wasn't sucking at .patch files formatting :lolwut:

EDIT: Hah, was wrong about the last sentence. Make a new folder in /mods folder, thed drop the file there, it should fix weather to 95% clear, 3% rain and 2% storm.

It's not about the percentage chance of weather in this case. It's about the duration of the weather once it starts. I don't know where the duration settings are but they're probably defined per weather type.

Also you won't be able to change pre-existing worlds like this.

Interesting. Thanks, tehcavy, for looking into that fix and good point about duration, LB. Making the rain duration shorter would help.

I suppose I could use your fix to stop the rain altogether too right? I can just make it:
    [1.0, "clear"],
    [0.0, "rain"],
    [0.0, "storm"]

    Or is that wrong?

random weather was killed, now weather is fixed to biome, with the exception that I think volcanic may have or not have meteors.

    RIP diveristy.

Hey, if a mod changed weather type percentages and someone joined the modded world, would it work properly for both players? I guess the question is, weather is server-side, correct?

The weather itself is serverside yes. But you will need it for clients too. Otherwise it can cause a crash in the navigation when a planet is using a weather constellation that is unknown for the client. If it is only a percantage edit then it should only be required serverside.
