Even still standing full Starbound output this year?

See the problem is that doesn't actually contradict what they have down so far. Its vague.

I do grant you that they sound far less confident in it before. Which is why I'm hopeful they can maybe give us a bit more information soon. Right now it sounds like they may have hit a snag, but thats complete speculation based only how uncomfortable sounding they seemed about answering those questions. It could have been jitters, could be something we don't know.

 

What is really the differerence between the beta and full release besides bugs?
By the time you get to 1/999 of the content in beta, the full release would have been public ..........3 years ago.
(but yea there are bugs)

 

Thinking about how people code, which we don't know, some people jump from tidbit to tidbit working on something when it comes to mind how to make it work the best. How I see it: They are adding features and fixing them as they can. And you have to keep in mind different people are working on different things.

Well, when Tiy (the lead developer) says "If you preorder you'll get access to the beta this year." I see that as a promise. Even though the word "promise" is not there, it's still what he has said, you know. And I see that as a possibility at this point, it's almost ready for a beta release according to the roadmap, even though we have no idea where they are right now with the development from last update of the roadmap, I don't think the beta is far away at this point.

But the devs have never said that if you preorder you will have the full release this year, as an example. Like they have never said that we will have the full release of the game ready this year, basically any type of release has been the estimate for 2013.

I agree that there could very possibly be a shit storm if nothing is released in 2013, I think that many people would lose their patience at that point if they have waited for a long time and seen the estimates being pushed back. There could be a lot of refunds if that happened, people wanting their money back because they have lost their patience completely. It would really suck.

But on the bright side, I really think the beta is not far away at this point. I think that for sure they'll get a beta release ready in 2013, and from that point it can't go wrong basically, it will only get better and everyone that are losing patience would be relieved and look forwards and be happy.

They did make unrealistic deadlines in the past for sure, but at this point I think it can only get better, all we need now is a beta version and the rest will be a walk in the park.

 

Learning from the history of the game's development, each major feature took them a lot of time to implement and to polish, and they want the beta to be feature filled, and they keep working on "side addons".

Yeah, even 2013 beta isn't likely to happen.

 

I just wish the devs could keep their promises for once. Or not make promises they aren't going to keep.

I'm sure the full game won't release by 2013 anymore. But the beta for sure will, so I don't care THAT much since I'll still get to play the game. Either way, I just really wish they'd stop doing things like this.

 

trailer, roadmap updates, ask us anything, daily updates, progression playthrough, and now no confidence whatsoever of full release in 2013.

i wouldn't say the outlook for beta is so great at this point.

 

as much as I don't believe they can deliver on almost anything anymore, it would be a huge mistake for them to not give out the beta by 2013. I'm sure even they have to know this.

The whole idea Starbound is suffering from feature creep is ridiculous.
We aren't talking about redundant and useless features being added to an already complete product, we are looking at content being added while the product is still under development.

Most people like to decide the path or state of games based on as much development experience as a rock placed on a keyboard. They make outrageous claims and comparrisons about all manner of things based on nonsense or the failings/victories of various other developers, all the while whining from their chairs about how things should be.
Sadly it's just people trying to justify their impatience with rubbish.

We already had one fellow complain about the time it has taken, claiming that he could code fish behaviour in 30 seconds and then implement it in 30 mins. The devs posted pages upon pages of fish behaviour code in response leaving the fellow looking rather silly.
Some people just think it's as easy as putting photos in a scrapbook and magic does the rest.

 

I'm not confident they're making it to 2013, but I'm not worried either. I'm more worried about being busy when it's released, hah.
If any 2015 would be the best time for me.

Nevertheless I trust they can make the 2013 thing. If not well some people will be upset, but hey, at least I get the game than never at all. That's all I pre-ordered for anyway.

 

im going to leave my vote undecided due to various reasons as this topic became more frequent shortly after i49 it'll be out when they say it's ready or would you like to have it out with all the spontaneous bug/glitches for you to work around? it's not gonna kill you to be patient

I always interpreted it as the BETA will be out in 2013. I mean the beta still counts as Starbound right? A beta RELEASE. But hey, that's just me! Cheers
