Even still standing full Starbound output this year?

Yeah it kind of seems like they don't see each others work until a build is updated and people get confused because of the trickle of info that comes out of Chucklefish.

The only thing we have in writing right now is:
"The official release date is currently 2013."

Which stated was, currently.

If they revised things during I49, I hope they will let us know something a bit more solid soon.

 

I'm not too surprised by game release delays anymore. It happens allllllllll the time.

I definitely agree with you guys that once beta hits, people will not worry about the full release (err... At least, I know I won't. Frankly, I'm not even worried about the beta release.). The daily updates that they've begun doing as well as the tidbit we saw from the i49 stuff was more than enough to satiate my seemingly incessant need to play the game myself. Just live vicariously through the LP's that the 'media' (folks such as the Yogscast, whom I honestly can't stand) will surely post prior to any of the releases. It worked for me as far as Terraria went, I'm sure it will work here too

 

delaying gets essayer the more you do it.

delayed full release should be no problem as long as we have a bate. people will not get angry if they have something to play. but if bate is 2 weeks before full release and that release keeps getting pushed back then there will be blood as i now think that bate will be the finished game and the finished game will be stretch goals.

On topic about the release, I'm agreeing with most other people, saying 2014 for that. They said 2013 for beta, it'll be beta 2013. We still have a good four months left, although it's getting smaller and smaller, their window. People are really starting to get impatient. They'll release eventually. People should calm down.

Erm, September, October, November, December? 4?

 

Molly was interviewed briefly at Insomnia by Machinima. When asked about a release date, Molly said that they are committed to releasing the beta this year. The full release, however, is coming "as soon as we possibly can." Source

That was reiterated by Stephen (beta by the end of the year; as for full release, "couldn't say") in a different (and much more in-depth) interview at Insomnia, can be viewed here. I highly recommend watching this one; lots of great info. He even settles the "hey this looks like Terraria" thing.

 

Does the full release really matter too much if the beta is still released this year? Honestly, I'm curious to know if you'll be terribly upset as long as we can play the game in 2013.

 

... what constitutes a promise? This is why I say the issue isn't black or white. Some will always say the 2013 deadline wasn't a promise because the word 'promise' wasn't mentioned. Others will say it's an estimated date and therefore no one should realistically pin their 'hopes and dreams' on it (lol... sorry, forum inside joke if you don't get it), and others will agree it's a grey area but the wording is so strong that a promise could have been implied (this is my camp... for better or worse).

The OP clearly quoted some of the information directly from the FAQ page and that information is very strongly worded so that if I may paraphrase, "A 2013 release date is shit or get off the pot time". Now I, being a software engineer myself, know that release dates do slip, but when you very publicly pronounce 2013 in the manner in which Chucklefish has, especially after slipping about 3 or 4 other dates, you better release something; otherwise, there will be a shit storm.

As I said, I personally think the developers are doing a fine job. I also think they've bent to peer pressure and set unrealistic deadlines, but everyone learns by making mistakes... at least everyone should.

 

While it is ok to want to know the answer, you guys have to understand that we are NOT entitled to an answer. While yes, we are (at least most of us are) paying customers, we are hardly shareholders or investors. We bought the product fully knowing that it would be done when its done. Such is the way of things when you pre-order. So can we wonder and speculate? Of course. Just please, don't go crazy about it. I content myself with the thought that every day longer it takes is a better game its going to be when it does come out. You guys all just need to be patient. Waiting for starcraft 2 to release for 8 years taught me a LOT of patience. At least chucklefish gives daily updates, and regularly interacts with its fanbase. Be glad that they are such a friendly helpful development team. It may be taking a while, but as blizzard has shown repeatedly, it can take a LOT longer. If they dont meet their optimistic 2013 plan, oh well. Starcraft2 and Diablo 3 got shifted back like 4 years each.

 

And I plan on ripping this game a new one when I get my hands on it!

I'm confident in the beta this year, but like the devs said at i49. I'm not sure about the full release.
