I am sure this had been bandied about before but a restore protectorate questline would be great. It could start with a quest from Ester to check out an old human signal. Upon arrival at the coordinates is a broken colony sleeper ship full of human in stasis. Your goal would be to repair it and thaw the passengers. Then find a barren planet and begin the process of terraforming it. The first mission would be to retrieve an industrial pixel printer and data core from the ruins of earth do that headquarters could be rebuilt. Once the colony is up and running ester suggests reforming the protectorate. You must then get missions from each of the representatives you collected from the main quest line to get consent from the leaders of each race to pledge resources toward the cause. If an antagonist is needed then the remains of the cult of ruin would serve as that. Perhaps they have resorted to piracy or raiding labs in order to assemble planets busting weapons to finish what the ruin was meant to. Each mission could have a specialized goal or antagonist. Like in recruiting the Apex you might have to overthrow the Big Ape and the mikinog. The Floran could be under attack by the cult and need your help to save a settlement. The Hlytol would need to be shown that their that their wisdom or at least viewpoint is needed. You could restore the old Grand library and cause a cultural revitalization that inspires them to be more active in the galaxy. The Glitch could be given a clue to their purpose and inspired by that purpose to assist the reforming protectorate. The Avians could be driven by the need to find the truth of Kulex and just exactly what he was and wanted from them. The Novakid may just think the reformed protectorate is a fun idea.
