You have you have excess pixels? good for you! I don't, I spend most of my pixels buying food, because farmed food doesn't restore enough hunger. Also, I have never heard of a gardenbot.

I just make a ton of special fried rice. It's super easy, fully restores hunger no matter how hungry you are, and gives you a long term health boost. Carry a few with me and stock my ship's fridge with a ton so they don't spoil, (Fridges do that. Get one!) and poof. Now I have WAAAY too much food. Like, legit.

They should just adjust mechanics and engineers, hardcap their upgrades, and do it per ship's tier. Let's assume that base ship stats are 1000 fuel capacity and 0% fuel efficiency. Remember that ship upgrade resets fuel capacity (for some reason), afaik it does not reset efficiency. It either should or should not reset both. Also surplus fuel should be returned or refunded somehow.

    Example values:
Each crew upgrade would increase fuel cap by 50, and efficiency by 1%.
    • Tier 1 (starting): fuel can go up to 1500, efficiency capped at 5%.
    • Tier 2: fuel can go up to 2000, efficiency capped at 10%.
    • Tier 3: fuel can go up to 2500, efficiency capped at 15%.
    • Tier 4: fuel can go up to 3000, efficiency capped at 20%.
    • Tier 5: fuel can go up to 3500, efficiency capped at 25%.
    • Tier 6: fuel can go up to 4000, efficiency capped at 30%.

I'd go with larger numbers than that, to make the impact of having an engineer more noticable.

    say, about double those numbers.

Maybe a solution for those who want to travel anywhere without fuel cost would be to add another property to the difficulty settings, just like the hunger one. That way, you can play in casual, or modding the game, and not have to worry about that stuff.

and accordingly quick will the playerbase shrink again because the lack of progression starts at 20hours played maybe 40 if you are the slower player.

then do what everyone else in the galaxy does: buy it at a fuel station

I'm ok with nerfing the engineer, since having NO limit on the upgrades just does not make sense. however the engineer should feel like a worthwhile investment from the get go, which is why I would suggest still allowing it to cut your fuel consumption in half once fully upgraded.

Maybe add a resource cost to the upgrades as well.

My original plan was to make it 5000 / 50%, but I could not make logical numbers that would add up to that. Your suggestion of 8000 / 60% is too much. 1000 fuel was plenty back in the day, now flying costs seem to be lower anyway, and you can lower them even further through crew upgrades. 5k / 50 seems like a far more reasonable solution. It's not like you can't just put a storage cabinet next to fuel intake and stuff it full of spare fuel. :p

I meant the numbers on the fuel conservation, not max fuel, you'd have a max of 4000 fuel but a discount of 50-60%.
