I only said it would be possible to do it with other machines, not necessery.

Just so you are aware of how Tiy is planning to do wire:

This might affect your plans for how to transport energy.

no, it doesn't affect it. it was just an example on how it could be transferred.

''16. matter converter, this converts any matter into energy. The heavier an object is,the more energy it produces. It's a good way to get rid of all your dirt. multiplier increases by 2 every time you make it a bit heavier. (credit to Mittgfu)''
I LOL'D at that, you can't magically destroy matter like that and obtain energy, the only way fo destroying matter i know is using an accelerator, getting the matter at speeds superior the light speed, desintegrating the matter into energy, wich would require an accelerator the size of (arround) the moon, wich you obviously can't fit into a generator, besides, it would require small atoms like hidrogen or helium to operate and building such a monstruosity would cost an extreme amount of resources.
Besides, the planet should have hidrogen in it's atosphere, you can't simply put a stone in it and hope that you get something out of it, as the matter from a stone (carbon probably, lots of salts and metals and stuff) will desintegrate at different speeds, melting the rest of the matter and destroying the accelerator wich would be bad. A single kind of matter should be used, a light one, the lightest known, hidrogen, if the atmosphere donsen't has any, no problem! get a nuclear reaction from (let's say) helium and split the atom in 2! tadaa! hidrogen. 1Helium--> 2Hidrogen. Then you can create vast amounts of energy, and never agin care about the electrical crysis, but of course, i have no idea how to do that, that's why humans still rely on fossil fuel to live. Also, it would cost a ot of energy to start the accelerator, and probably if something goes wrong, it could blow up, and take a chunk of the planet in orbit with the explosion. (that's the origin of the moon, originally a chunk of the earth i think...)
Well, it's simply something REALLY advanced and would require lots and lots of science. maybe the station could use one...
[IMG]The ''donut'' arrount the space station is an accelerator, and yes, i made this with paint in 2 minutes, it's a concept.

This is a game. The devs can implement anything that they want. It is just code, and nothing really is impossible.
Even if the game should have a futuristic but realistic feal to it, you have to understand that in this game, YOU CAN FU**ING CLONE. But no, you have to argument about the realism of a simple matter to energy converter.

LOL that's me, i argument about (im)possibilityes :p but well, i'm not the dev, i just want the game to be a bit more realistic that's all. It's called science fiction because even if it's fiction, it has a scientific base.

  8. Mittgfu

    Mittgfu Phantasmal Quasar

Sure, but science in the future will probably be much more compact. Maybe they could fit in a micro atomic reactor into a handgun. And baaam, you got a gun that shoots everything without gunpowder. It's as simple as that :p

Use air to shoot obsidian bullets, because everyone knows obsidian is the best material.
This conversation is getting a teeny tiny bit off-thread so we should stop.

Are you comparing starbound to Industrial craft, cuz u missed a lot. On a note water mill meet water planet generator meet machanical planet, fluffy the bunny meet the octopus planet I'm dumping you here with a monkey launcher :lolwat:

And Frankenstein needs soap and pants

I don't really get what your are saying. This is not industrialcraft, and if it was, who cares?

I like the concept of having to generate your own energy stores to power machinery / tools. I won't even presume to discuss your multiplier vales; it's really something I don't have a lot of knowledge of, but having alternative methods based on what sort of planets you're 'harvesting' makes sense. I can see the possibilities for colonising a world for the sole purpose of extracting oil and other resources, though I'm not sure if that's terrifyingly over-realistic...
What sort of machinery were you thinking of the generator powering? I immediately thought of a charging station for mechs/battlesuits (though that's because I'd just been over in that thread! :p) I suppose this could also be applied to the battery powered tools and items that are already confirmed to exist to some extent in the game.

    1. Crystals seems over-powered.
    2. Heat-based energy should produce ALOT more (Variables: Planet Type (hot planets have more energy); Touching environmental heat sources (like a volcanoe or plasma); Depth of heat tube (lower parts of the planet generaly have more heat)
    3. Solar OBVIOUSLY ONLY WORKS IN THE DAY AND MUST HAVE CONTACT WITH SUN (Variables: Planets distance to star; Size of star; Type of star)
    4. Uranium, the exploding thing is a bit massive. Perhaps a small explosion with fallout that kills life and damages players (provided they dont have any armor to counter this, fallout blows in direction of wind)

  17. DNAY!

1, crystals are very very rare
    2, that's a good idea
3, i'm not sure all of these things will be implemented in the game. But if they are, it's a great idea
4, 1 exploding reactor will pollute 20% (100% is everything dies). You can clean air. If a reactor explodes, all life in a small area will die (except player and bosses), sand will turn into glass, water will evaporate (and other things like that).

I'll add some edits, thanks for the ideas!!
