I was thinking about ways to get energy. maybe you can think of more things. My idea is that you can make a machine: the generator!! you can attach things to a generator or put things in it as a fuel. i made a list of things you can attach or use as fuel. Things you can use as a fuel have a multiplier level, based on coal. so coal=1, etc. the multiplier for the machines tells how much power it generates per second. (credit to Mittgfu for the multiplier level idea) This is my list: 1. Solar panels, these will be attached to the generator, only works in the day. 1x - 20x per second (can vary per sun) 2. Oil, i read on very much places that oil is going to be implented. maybe burning oil will pollute the atmosphere? multiplier 5x, 1% pollution 3. Lava/magma, you put these in the generator (maybe you need to upgrade it so it doesn't melt). the generator will extract the heat and a stone is left inside. (maybe even metals or gems! RARE!!!) multiplier 25x 4. watermill, let water flow over it and energy will be generated. I don't think there will be infinite water like in Minecraft, so this will not be very efficient. (maybe a water pump?) 3x per second 5. energy crystals, pure forms of energy. if you put these in the generator a small/moderate/HUGE amount of energy is created (depending on size). these wont create any pollution so they're very efficient, but also very very very very very very rare. small crystal= 15x moderate crystal= 30x huge crystal= 60x 6. Coal, burn this in the generator, also pollution. 1x, 1% pollution 7. gas, hard to get (you'll need gas tanks and pumps). creates a moderate amount of energy when burned and creates a very small amount of pollution. 35x, 0.5% pollution 8. windmill, this is attached to the generator. works better on planets with strong winds or high places. The windmill can break off if the wind is too strong. on planets with no wind it won't work. if you place it one block higher the multiplier will increase by 0.5. so if you place it on a place with no wind, it won't work. if you place it one block higher where there is wind it will generate 1x. after that it only increases with 0.5. 9. Uranium, this will be a very efficient but rare source of fuel. It needs cooling (water, ice) and if you dont cool it it will be overheated and can explode, polluting a small area and polluting a part of the atmosphere. This kills all animals except the player (if he has moderate armor on) and bosses, turns sand into glass, evaporates water, etc. 80x, 20% pollution if it explodes. 10. Biofuel, created with any kind of plant (except wood) in an additional machine. Creates a moderate amount of energy and no pollution. 40x 11. Antimatter, you need to combine antimatter with any other kind of matter to create a huge amount of energy. Antimatter should be very rare (Boss drop, Black holes, etc.) 200x 12. Drainer, this slowly drains away all life on the planet and condenses it to pure en energy. it creates a lot of energy but not as much as the antimatter. A drained planet cannot be terraformed anymore (this prevents unlimited energy supplies). it is a machine that you attach to the generator. 50x per second. 13. Radiation eater (needs a better name), it slowly feeds on any radiation on the planet, turning it to a much more safe planet to be. has 5% chance of making a piece of uranium. it's attached to the generator. 50x per second. 14. Lightning, you just attach a long metal rod on top of the generator. If lightning strikes, there is a chance that a huge amount of energy is stored and the rod melts, but most of the time the generator explodes/melts. It won't be very hard to make because most of the time it won't work. so, it won't be a very efficient way to get energy. 100x only one time. 15. Heat absorber, this will work best on volcanoes or volcanic planets. you can on and off. if its on it will absorb the heat from the blocks around it. if it's off, the blocks can regain their heat (melt or just heat up). It is very inefficient so it won't be very useful to get large amounts of energy. 0.5x - 5x per second, varies per planet/biome. ( hotter = more energy ) 16. matter converter, this converts any matter into energy. The heavier an object is,the more energy it produces. It's a good way to get rid of all your dirt. multiplier increases by 2 every time you make it a bit heavier. (credit to Mittgfu) 12 and 13 will be very hard to make, because they make a big supply of energy. This was my list. Maybe you can think of other energy sources, a name for the machine that creates biofuel or a way to get lava to the generator. Pollution will cause all trees and plants to slowly die if it gets to 100% pollution (except if it's on a planet that's already really hostile for the plantlife, because they'll be adapted to hard conditions). This doesn't count for the grass on the floor and the smaller plantlife. Pollution may be reversed with an air-purifier (Art please!!) Also if the big plants die, the animals that feed on them will also die, and the animals that feed on those animals will also die. at the end, there will only be small plantlife and small animals left. They could also make a gun that drains away the energy meters of other players, or absorbs light. Absorbed energy will be added to your energy bar. This will obviously be a late game item. If you attach a machine to the generator you can't attach any other machines to it, you also can't burn anything in it (or use lava and energy crystals). Also, a generator can be attached to other machines with wiring. If a windmill breaks off a generator, it will break and leave like 70% of the materials used and the generator can't be used anymore until you repair it, after that it turns back in a normal generator. You can open a GUI with the generator which shows two buttons and a hollow space. you can put any rechargeable item in the space and click the load button, the other button will reload your energy bar. It says something like: reload energy. there will also be a energy bar that shows how much energy the generator has. maybe someone can make a GUI of it, cause i'm not very talented with art. please reply, give your ideas, comments and art.
I have made a GUI for the generator. (Warning, you may get blinded by its crappyness) I hope you can make something better, this is just to show you what it could look like.
So it's basically a thread of how you generate elecrizity. Such thread are already existend. Also for a threax that ourely relies on things feom wich you can get power, the list is rather small...

This is an interesting concept although we're not completely sure what the power is used for. Redstone-like wiring, maybe?
There will be battery power, and lots of people are talking about wire. I think there will be some kind of redstone wire, like you said. and maybe energy can even be transported wireless. like in the wireless redstone mod. if you don't know it, you can use machines to teleport redstone power from one place to another. one machine will send it to another machine if they have the same spectrum. (code/item)
Problem is: Redstone is a simple on/off signal. Build a lever from one stone and a stick and bam, infinit energy. Here, we work with energy that has an ammount. That means too that logic gates are no longer possible. Sadly.
I only mean the way to transport energy, with some kind of wiring. like redstone. and because very much people know minecraft this is an easy way to present it to people.
Nice indeed. Maybe you should add a multiplyer to all energy merhods. Based on coalfuel. So say: Uranium (80x) Means it makes 80 times more energy than coalfuel in the same time, but is more expensive.
maybe the lightbulb virorb will be much more common. and the planet will contain very much ores that can be used in machinery. it won't rain, but there will be lightning. There will also be no/almost no animals/plants. the whole planet will be desert and maybe there will be some kind of robor boss.
So I could make an actual Frankenstein laboratory, that is lightning powered? Hook up a zombie reviver to a lightning generator, and you got the power to be a crazy idiot?
i don't think there will be zombies in the game. but it would be cool, like having your own zombie army. maybe even a zombie mount. and you can also attach any of these machines to a zombie reviver and give it a shock. so it wouldn't be necessary to use a lightning generator. cause there will also be a chance that the machine explodes and your lab + you + the body will be shredded to pieces.
