Is it confirmed or can a awesome developer answer me if there will be energy sources in the game? I mean, to do wiring, you first need to have some kind of electricity and stuff going on, would you need to produce it to connect to some generator and do the wiring of it will just work like magic? By the way, here's a link about Geothermal Energy I found in the Suggestions/Mechanics section: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/geothermal-energy.10220/ Found another pretty cool suggestion: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/electricity-generation.3695/
Solar seems to be a nice and obvious option, no doubt it has come across their minds. of course not all planets will have daylight so... yeah OOH! Special types of power-producing plants would be nice, as long as they only require water.
I think there'll be solar power for sure, and possibly hydroelectric, considering that water demo things. Batteries -- most probably as well, considering their use on Earth. Nuclear generators, fuel cells, and more exotic energy sources will just have to be waited on to see if they'll be in-game, I guess
I really hope that they provide a heap of different and unique ways to produce power, even some comical ones would be fun to see
Can our machines run machines that run themselves that run machines that make power to run themselves?
I think it would be a great idea, as a hardcore mode. Where stuff like defense turrets need a power supply and wire systems like Minecrafts redstone would need actual power sources. Each power source would have its own catch. Like (roughly): Solar= Needs Sun light in order to work, some suns produce more energy than others, all solar panels work better the closer to space they are. Geothermal= Only works on a planet with geothermal activity, and needs to be drilled down to said core. You cant just place it like a terraria statue. Wind turbines= Can only be placed on planets with an atmosphere and wind. Wind cannot be too powerful or the turbine will break. Coal= A bad idea but will generate power never the less. (Changes atmosphere over time to a less hospitable one, animals and certain plants die.) Nuclear= High energy out put You better have a lot of coolant for this, or its Chernobyl wherever you set it up. Water will work, if it is in excess. Very ideal for arctic planets. Produces glowing barrels of waste (a crafting item?) Hydroelectric= a tricky one because I don't know if they will have flowing water sources. but if not, it will only generate a low amount of power, and must be completley submerged in water. Fusion= High power output, needs coolant (not as much as nuclear) Large, heavy, and expensive. Low risk of collateral damage. Has a proportionally miniaturized version that can be used to power vehicles only but is even more expensive and has a higher risk of collateral damage. Cold fusion= High power output, does not need coolant. Larger, Heavier and VERY expensive, resources to maintain it must be refined. <Insert creature here> slave turbines= My favorite Runs on the physical effort, sweat, and tears of whatever you capture and put into its endless wheel of exercise, power outputs depend on the creature loaded into the wheel IE: Pengiuns are slow and clumsy walkers so low output, but you can spam them and get a decent amount of comical energy. Or one of those pig pirate beings that don't like the poptops, forced to run in the wheel, looks hilarious as he tubmles about snarling and cursing at you, but because they have a more adept ability to actually walk/run, has a higher output than the penguin. But do to their intellect they could have a chance of breaking free of captivity at any given moment. (For ethical reasons you cannot enslave any characters or creatures of a playable race. Especially the Ape ones, besides haven't you seen planet of the apes? Yeah well these ones already HAVE intellect, so no!) Once again Wall-o-text!
I'm not suggesting anything º.º I just want to know if you'll need a power source do to wiring or it just works like in Terraria where you just activate the lever or switch and it magically works... Of course, if I were to suggest, I would suggest being able to extract energy from basically anything if the needed technology is installed, heat, wind, water, nuclear reactions, radiation of many sorts (from light and gamma rays to freaking microwave background radiation lol), coal (a spaceship moved by coal would be stupid as $%#%, but who cares...), chemical energy of many sorts (gasoline, sugar, human fat). (also, thanks for taking attention to my simple question and sorry for my bad english)
First, your english is very good. Second, it has not been confirmed whether or not we will need power sources to run things through wiring. So, as far as we know it could go either way. Hope this helped.
Marshall: Nice Avatar lol. Some of those might be interesting to use especially if they have potential drawbacks.
I hope so! Reminds me of some of the Minecraft mods where you can store energy from solar panels, wind turbines and nuclear reactors. We haven't heard anything official about it though. Could be that everything just magically has a low current, like Minecraft's Redstone or Terraria's Wiring.
Now I want to know how or if we need to provide power to buildings and items or they are always powered regardless of power sources.
Are you sure that's how it works? I pretty sure you left out the whips and rockets I found on the schematic on your desk.
I would like to think that it's possible for them to include all sources of power today, plus fusion, antimatter, and other cool stuff
Why when you have better advanced power methods? Solar panels will still be pretty effective but hydro and wind? I doubt there would be any use for them.
