First off, hello to the Devs and to my fellow starbound forum-goers, I've mentioned this idea several times, but I want to mention it just one more time here on the forums to make sure it gets read. Tiy himself mentioned he wants enemies to have inventories we can loot, so I prepose this:

When you kill an enemy that has no inventory, just have in die in an explosion of fire/blood/etc. but if it DOES have an inventory, upon death it turns into a pile of goo/bones/metal parts etc, depending on the species of the creature itself. Secret of evermore did this, and I feel it'd work quite well here.

Taking into consideration the number of games with a corpse inventory it really is up to the Devs because there's more than one option.

You've got the piles of the defeated enemies (like you said)
    The classic loot bag drop
I've seen games where enemies drop boxes on death (which have items in them)
As well as your run of the mill Treasure Chests.

As long as the game incorporates a corpse inventory feature I'm happy - How they choose to go about it is of little consequence to me

I like it. This way, you can distinguish which corpses can still be looted or not, it makes the environment less cluttered. Dropping a bag or a chest is rather unfitting for a sci-fi game I guess. Maybe there could be a light glow around a corpse if you hover over it with your mouse to indicate the opportunity to interact with it.

    That could work too.

Alas I can see the arduous task of hovering over every fallen enemy multiple times to make sure you got all the glows D:
Perhaps to tackle that issue, the corpses should glow regardless of mouse hovering?

This would solve the problem, I think this is the best solution. It's subtle, but still obvious enough to see it on the first look.

No no, like I said in my original post, if the enemy has NO inventory to loot, it leaves no corpse, it just explodes in a flash of blood/smoke/fire etc. But if there's something worth looting, then a corpse is left behind

how bout the items spill out and when u walk over it the name shows up and if u wanna loot it press a button or click a button?

Yeah, the best suggestion of this topic.Like as,make the character crouchdown near the item, and he gets it.

The method should probably be quick because you don't want to be stuck checking through enemy inventories while others are still attacking you.

I think i get what he is trying to say.

If an anime has nothing worth of dropping the enemy will simply explode and we should just ignore it for future item hunting generations.
If it does have something then it will do a different death animation.

I have an issue with this "bag of bones" philosophy.

In terraria, I have melted down dozens of zombies all on the same spot. It would be a jumble of cluttered corpses.
I heard the Devs say that they were thinking about having a bag drop, and you loot the bag.

that being said, It would be an interesting indicator. (Robot explodes into gibs and metal) ok nothing there. (Part of the robot explodes, and it slumps to the ground) Oooo Salvageable!

So... yeah i'm on the fence here.

Makes sense, how would you handle a ton of bad guys dieing with loot at once?

i like the idea of pussing a button to take the items it is easy to loot when there are other monsters, and the idea of letting a corpse could be used more for decoration, maybe you can loot them for that particular monster parts an then mix them in a statue or a stuffed creature

The corpses could physically push one another, as in if two corpses land in the same spot, they slide away from eachother til they were both seperated.

i think that woild create some lag if you kill dozens of enemys, maybe something like the containers/corpses mixing in one or just dissapearing fast wen emptyed, but maybe this could bring problems too

I'd assume drop rate would be semi-scarce. Really now that I think about it I'm not sure if the devs SHOULD go through with the idea of enemies having inventories, I know Tiy mentioned he wanted it that way but it could become a cluttered mess quickly.

  19. Looting corpses/lootbags would be nice, considering it would lessen the amount of items scattered in the game. I'm still thinking of any possible drawbacks of this way, though. It's best to find the advantages/disadvantages, to come up with a really decent suggestion.

i do agree with looting. as jermex mention sometimes it can be a drag for your character to pick up whatever is on the floor and all of a sudden you notice your inventory empty.
