I'm just saying if you're looking for people who aren't past murdering other human beings for money, then I'm pretty sure the kid who doesn't own a firearm to begin with isn't a good choice. (Unless of course he's holding a melee weapon and vouches that he can use it, but this is specifically in argument for someone coming up empty handed.)

I don't even know what you're talking about with the V2, and why it arbitrarily takes 6 days to unlock and and another 4 days to re-lock it.

no i am saying its stupid to compare games like this just say that enemies that have guns have a chance of droping their gun or otherwise be damaged beyond use because that shit happens

Found a rocket launcher earlier. It was jawdroppingly awesome.. but then I got to higher levels, and the damage dropped several stories.

    ANYWAY

I think Guns shoulds start being craftable in Tier 3, as you get a really shitty basic one in tier 2. (The brain extractor. It's a gun, not a good one, but it is, a gun.) With the robotic crafting table, I could see someone making a basic Shotgun and a Hunting Rifle of sorts, and then in Tier 4 get access to like, a Pistol and an Assault Rifle. (As well as an upgraded Hunting Rifle and Shotgun.) Then when Tier 5 Rolls around you finally get the option to create a fancy sniper rifle and maybe an SMG. (as well as an upgrade of the previous four types)

Is this a long process? Suuuuure, is it an unpheasable level of weapon progression? I think not, Tier 2 still has a hunting bow (steel), but tier 3 doesn't, Tier 2 introduces a basic gun (the brain extractor), so being able to expand on it in the next tier works, The tier 2 boss, favors a melee style over a ranged one. (Once the armor gets re worked.) The tier 3 boss favors a ranged style, so having the player have craftable options by this point works, and help ensures that a player doesn't get RNG Screwed without Coordinate 'scumming'.

EDIT: Oh, and gun toting enemies should totes drop guns, I agree, it doesn't need to be anymore complicated as that. on the flip side though, Sword wielders should drop swords, spear wields spears, shield wielders shields, etc.

Bandits low on manpower. Recruit. My V2 comment means this. Unlocking or tagging the weapon would be useless if you could instantly do it. And waiting for the weapon to unlock when you could of been using it is bad.

The PMCs used I'D locked weapons. The militias used non-I'D or unlocked wepons. Sincerely a MGS fanboy.

I second this motion as I think many of us had hoped upon seeing a foe with a gun, that they would drop the gun just like how foes with melee weapons, drop those weapons.

Low on man power doesn't mean a requirement of weak power. The guy who has nothing to offer would be included in on their rationing and their treasure without working and defending for it as well as the others, and I can assure you that wouldn't bode well.
I think instantly undoing a system meant to work as a lock would be useless in its own, but why would it take days? Why the extreme examples?
It could take less than a day, it could take two weeks. It could be any variable of time. Just because it's locked doesn't mean that suddenly they will be in combat and every battle they go through is a tragic waste because Jim didn't inherit Fred's gun in time for it. They might not see combat until it's unlocked, or they might go through several. There is a lot of factors at play to make it unviable just because it takes time.

Why would you think Jim is weak? His name? He was a survivor of the Hydegoin war! Also.... "My pea shooter sure is lousy compared to DEAD FREDS gun. Too bad I can't use it because of DNA locks. Scout says some dude is out there loaded with cash. Guess I'll make the most of this thing". If only bandit guy had a better gun. Time is money.

I don't understand how the conversation devolved so much after such a reasonable and neutral suggestion.

Anyways, yes, I agree that when I first encountered bandits, I was excited because I "knew" I was going to finally get a gun. When none dropped, I was disappointed. It was unintuitive at the very least.

For the fight they put up, one expects more of a reward than the handful of pixels you can get from killing any old animal.

I don't think the whole "they're bandits and bandits are X and Y" back and forth bickering is going anywhere though in terms of justifying or condemning the original suggestion.

let me put forth an argument that will put you fools to shame, NPCS THAT USE GUNS HAVE A GOOD CHANCE TO DROP GUNS. SAME CAN BE SAID OF SWORDS N SHITE.

ALSO MINi BOSSES ALREADY HAVE A CHANCE TO DROP RARE WEAPONS EVEN GUNS BECAUSE BIG ASS MONSTERS SOMETIMES EAT PEOPLE WITH GUNS OR SWORDS N SHITE. BOOM you are put to shame, LOGIC MOTHERBUCKER!!!!!

SO STOP ARGUING LIKE THE NINNY'S YOU ARE!

seriously its not rocket science people, keep calm and be excellent.

Err, I was referring to the system where corpses you find or enemies you kill are lootable, and what's in their inventory is what they were actually wearing/wielding. So you can murderize a town guard, steal his clothes and wear them. Or kill a boss creature, and nick its phat loot. Not the random loot in chests, wasn't clear on that point sorry.

That wasn't what the argument was about. The argument was on the validity of DnA locked guns as a fitting thematic reason behind why the bandits haven't been dropping guns.

Look, I agree that it kinda sucks fighting a mob armed with a gun and you have a melee weapon. It also sucks thinking they might even drop you a gun, but guys think about this.. ONLY 2 Tiers out of 10 are implemented yet.. 2/10... I sure hope the first 20% of the game isnt saturated with guns jfc there needs to be a melee progression also, and the difficulty progression of having to defeat an enemy more powerful than yourself is natural to boss fights and a feeling of accomplishment that comes from winning against the odds is necessary to generate continued interest in the game. Stop looking at it as a complete thing and realize beta is a progression, man I'd think most of you have never been involved in a beta before. Chill out.. It's already awesome and its only going to become more so, I love the passion, it just needs to be mostly redirected into a positive way that can help shape and make the game better. They have a plan I promise !

We're all very well aware that it's a beta and there is a ton left to go, we're just killing time til that 80% gets here.

The more I think about it, I think a dwarf fortress/Gnomoria approach would work well here in terms of enemy drops. Have all humanoid NPCs with equipment have a high chance (50%?) to drop "broken" gear and a smaller chance to drop items relevant to what they're carrying. The broken gear can be a universal item for stacking purposes and inventory management but can be split into tiers. Alpha sector mobs for example, can drop "broken copper" items while higher level mobs can drop "broken iron" items and so forth. The player can then take these items to a refinery or another workstation that allows them to smelt down the broken gear into useful tidbits like metal bars or pieces for new gear. A typical broken weapon for example may yield parts needed for another weapon. Of course, some tweaking will have to be done so players can't just camp mobs over and over for material and avoid mining/scavenging completely.

Ideally, this would give people a nice small alternative to obtaining needed materials that won't involve spending hours mining away in a cave and would certainly help make dungeon exploration more worthwhile. Spent an hour or two traversing a dungeon only to find nothing in the chests? Well, at least you now have some extra metal bars or nifty gun parts to craft something later down the line.

I was actually thinking about this, but the inventory management involved makes my ears bleed.

In theory, I love the idea that we could break down our weapons into component parts and put them back together. (The crafting mechanics in Dead Space 3 come to mind here.) With enemies dropping broken gear that spits out pieces we can slap into our weapons or armor. But, unless the inventory management systems improve massively, it would be incredibly tedious to try to build anything. That said, it would require a major overhaul of the game's itemization, from the ground up. If they're going to do that, now would be the time, though.
