End-Game Bed Healing NEEDS Tuning

    Zaviel What do you get if you multiply six by nine?

    Recently I've obtained a full set of teir-10 armor on my human, the Universalist I believe it is called. The chest armor gives you 400 HP which is nice, till you try and sleep on a bed. To get a single bar of health it takes 41 FULL SECONDS. Different beds do not heal differently, I tested with several; Wood, Steel, Rudium, doesn't matter.

    I used to play Terraria quite a bit and still love Starbound, despite the help Starbound needs. My suggestion is to simply make beds heal by a percentage of your health, but I still want all beds to heal the same for cosmetic reasons. Making beds heal by a percentage of your health seams to be the best solution to this problem.

    (Unrelated)
    DoT effects need to scale by percentage as well (poison, burn.) on both the player and enemy.

    Yeah, this needs support. That aside, there is a 'tiered' system for beds as well as armor, so it only makes sene to have certain beds heal more than others. This is another system of progression that's built into the came.

    But what if you want your simple home? Putting a Gold bed there wont fit at all. So all the beds healing equaly will be good, so we can have our base or ship as we want, without thinking of tiers.

    What if you want a simple home? Putting any of your super-tech-improved refineries, crafting tables, or anvils will also ruin your asthetics. So beds are just another level of progression. There are plenty of beds that will work for you without needing to be super fancy. You could keep your high level bed up in your ship and teleport back when you need healing. Problem solved.

    I support beds healing by percentage, but I'd much rather choose which bed to use based on its aesthetic, not its stats. An impervium bed may be more comfortable than a pile of hay, but comfort doesn't heal; sleep does. So, IMO, all beds should heal at the same percent-per-second.

    ...in the mean time, you can change the healing rate yourself by editing the game files. The files are in the subfolders of C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\assets\objects ...the crafted ones are in .../tiered , things like the floran prison bed are in .../floran etc.

    Open with notepad or something and look for this:

    Code:
      "sitStatusEffects" : [
        { "kind" : "Health", "amount" : 0.02 }
      ],
    Change the 0.02 to a higher value to increase the regen rate.

    All beds do currently heal the same regardless of tier, the problem being is that it is a very slow heal regardless.

    Is it possible to change the values to be percentage-based healing? I haven't looked into the source code or the config variables much, so it may have been programmed as static numbers to be healed at each interval, but a percentage-based approach could allow bandages and beds to scale into lategame, without being ridiculously strong in T1.

    So then you'd want your beds to heal 2-20% of your HP per second, regardless of what gear you have or anything? That seems a little overpowered/underpowered in certain situations.

    So if its underpowered but at the same time overpowered, doesn't that make it how it should be?

    To me beds have nothing been tools to wait out time with, the only perk they have is they have a very slow health Regen. I know real world logic doesn't really fit here, but unless the bed is literally regenerating you beyond your natural ability to heal when sleeping, it makes little sense. Maybe there can be the best world and we are given healing pods and the like. All in all, I've always just cooked hundreds of food to heal.

    Well the interrogation tables have a faster healing rate. I don't see why they couldn't do that to other beds

    I see nothing wrong with percentage healing. A large/strong person naturally heals at the same rate as a small/weak person though in terms of amount healed, the strong person has recovered more.

    Beds should heal by percentage or the higher end beds should heal faster.

    Percentage based healing makes the most sense in this, I think. Having to sleep for over an entire in-game day to recover yourself because you're wearing better gear doesn't make any sense. You sleep 6-10 hours a day regardless of the majority of activities during the day - so why penalize people for having better equipment?

    Being overpowered and underpowered at the same time is called balance.

    An alternate solution to this would be to scale armor with additional reduction and running with base 100 HP
    OR
    an energy shield instead of additional HP that recovers outside combat.

    I agree that the beds should be changed to a percentage basis, or there should be a healing station or healing pod that supersedes beds. It doesn't really make sense for a bed to boost your regeneration rate just because it's made out of a better material.

    Right now the only bed that heals faster is Interrogation Table which heals with a value of 0.05 rather than 0.02.

    In the meantime, though, I just make Regen 3 food and eat that.

    Bed:
    - Heals your health fully within 5 seconds (20% a second)
    - Can't enter if it's not backgrounded and enclosed with all doors closed
    - Can't enter if any enemy is onscreen or you have taken damage in the last 10 seconds
    - When you enter it, enemies stop appearing until you leave
    - If every player on the same planet is in a bed and it's night, everyone can press E to vote to skip to dawn (majority required.)

    I fully support your idea fibriel, It seems like it would make it balanced and not broken :) good job .

    Higher end beds should be more like interrogation tables. The impervium bed does say it is the height of comfort
