Could be just me but I.....honestly was pretty disappointed by her events, not gonna lie. I felt like while all the other events focused on showing the growing relationship between the character and MC, her events to me only seemed to show more about herself. Which is good, but not if it's the only thing the event does. Sure, she interacts with the MC, but you don't really get to see how their relationship grows?? Even though I don't like Alex personally, I at least liked you can see how he changes with your character. And with Shane, you can see the impact the MC has on his life And this is more of a nitpick than anything, but not seeing a kiss in the 10 heart event was just :/ It's implied at least but...cmon man....we cant see them smooch....0/10 goin back to Elliot
I was also somewhat disappointed with Emily's story line but for different reasons. I mean she did share a sleeping bag with the MC. No, what slightly disappointed me was that she's built up to be this mystical person with *magical* powers but then all that just falls by the wayside. I was hoping for something like the Wizard popping up and claiming Emily as his daughter or at least revealing some connection. Heck, the Wizard is looking for an apprentice and Emily would fit the role perfectly. But instead we get a fashion show and a camping trip after being led down some magical dead end.
I don't know I like them, Emily is more of a sweet down to earth sort of person not worried about fashion in the sense that while she enjoys talking about it and making clothes it's not the center of her life she's comfortable how she dresses. Worries about the town and it's people hopes you're farming in a sustainable way her interest in meditation doesn't necessarily mean she'd have magical themed events more spiritual than anything. Depends on how you look at it though.
I definitely liked seeing more of Emily's personality, but I just wish there was more of how she relates to and gets closer with the MC. Because honestly, if you could go the whole Emily route and unless you marry her, it could literally be entirely platonic. The others were so romantic while Emily's was just...a deeper look into her personality, which isn't bad, but bland when you think it's supposed to be romance.
Now that you mention it, that was kind of swept under the rug, wasn't it? Aside from the first event and "I consider the birds my special friends", we get to see none of her magick kookiness at all.
Yeah but that's a good thing too all we knew was that she was a barmaid that liked fashion and was Haley's sister so it was nice to see how she is by herself, a lot of the events are romantic but me personally it's nice to have those non romantic events in there too which we do have of course. So it's like you have your close friend and nothing changes unless you say something instead of I feel romantically confused on who I want which I think is more common in harvest moon events where it really feels like you're just dating everyone lol. Though yeah I could see wanting more, I think it's also like she spends time worrying about everyone and doesn't quite get feelings that could pop up around her which is why I would marry her and show her otherwise where as Clint keeps himself in the friendzone by not acting at all some chicks are like that you just have to say 'no we aren't just friends and I'll prove it'.
Emily's romance route felt more like a continuation of your friendship with her imo. Like, even after giving her the bouquet and getting her ten heart scene, I felt that I was more friends with her than her significant other. I think the line that puts me off a little is when she's like, "We've become good friends, haven't we?" I mean, we're dating, so I'd hope so, lol. Silly lady. I can get behind a platonic romance though, so it's all good. And I love when she scoots closer to you in the ten heart scene with her. Very adorable.
It did feel like you were just observing her from a distance rather than building a relationship with her, yeah. But I still love them, especially the 8 heart event. Easily one of my favorite cutscenes in the game
Her events needed progression. It doesn't have to be consistent or constant, just progressive in the way Shane's and Leah's were. Leah: Subplot A (Art sale): Events 1, Event 3 (farm) and 4. Subplot B (Kel the ex): Events 2 and 5. Romance development/pause: Event 3 (forest). Shane: Subplot A (Life sucks): Events 1, 2, 3 (cliff, farm, and ranch) <--Yes, 3 events for 1 heart level, 5 events in total for this subplot. Character/romance development: Events 4 and 5. Now for Emily's: No subplots. No progression. Standalone events: Events 3, 4, and 5. Character development(?): Events 1 and 2. Bonus gripe: Event 4 because it's weird that Emily shows romantic interest and that Clint congratulates you when you haven't done anything. In the POV of my character, my character hasn't done anything noteworthy with Emily outside of gameplay up to that point. My biggest gripe is that her event 5 doesn't use the small amount of character development (because there is no romance development lol), from the previous events and doesn't touch up on any of her hobbies. However, I would also be okay with event 5 being the way it is now if a few of the events were progressive with one another. ---------------------- Coincidentally, event 3, which I consider to be the best event, is the only one where you get a dialogue option. It's also the first time you and Emily actually interact in her events. (Because dream you doesn't really count.)
So I was pondering this, and whilst I did love the scenes we got, I too was wishing for more interaction with the player. A simple fix in my mind would be with the four heart scene: Plan A would simply be have the player walk in after the bird goes splat, so you can have a convo about Emily wanting to take care of it, leading to the choices of yes/whatever/dumb idea with appropriate friendship changes. Plan B would be a bit more involved, and have a part 1 & part 2. The first part would be same as is now, with the player not witnessing the event. Part 2 would kick in when you visit Emily at home, where you get a cut scene where she introduces you to the Parrot & says she's looking after it now. Emily could then ask for the player's opinion on its since they're a farmer and all, giving following options: It looks beautiful, just like you! - Emily gets flustered and says she meant its health, hilarity and blushing ensues, asks you to "make sure to come back and visit me- I mean the parrot!" You've done a great job! - Emily is very happy, rambles about new age-y things. Tells you you're welcome to come by any time. Hmm you should probably ask Marnie, she's the vet - Emily gets sad, says she was hoping for your opinion. This was a mistake, all things die, such is the way of nature - Emily gets upset, calls you heartless or says you're harshing her vibe or similar. Gives the player some sort of indication of regular contact & the tone of it perhaps.
I was disappointed in Emily's Heart Scenes as well. I feel it is a great view into Emily's Personality, but I don't feel any romantic ties to Emily. I feel like we are just friends, maybe getting to know each other, but still just developing a Platonic friendship. I like Plan B
Heart 4 part 2. Choices. Happy response. Angry response. I'll probably combine the first and second dialogue boxes in the angry response since they don't really need to be two separate boxes. These are the relationship points I have set for the choices: 1)+50 2)+25 3) 0 4)-100 Please forgive how bare it is. This was just a quick mock up using Emily's third event as a template. I'm going to start from scratch once I learn how to work with the scenes. I don't consider myself a writer or creative and I'm sure as hell not confident that I could keep Emily consistently in character. With that said, I would love to hear ideas from other people. Credit goes to Gotthammer for this event idea. ------ Too much work for little demand and fanfiction kind of makes me cringe, although I still think Gotthammer's idea works.
I'll admit that I haven't REALLY watched Emily's two and six heart events because they trigger migraines for me (the colors in the two heart, the flashing colored lights in the six heart) but from what amount I've managed to see, I'm also a bit disappointed. I mean, the fact Emily is a tailor seems like it should be more important, for one. It seems like it got ignored for most of her scenes and such, even though it's implied to be the "job" she prefers more, with the job at the Saloon being a "well, I gotta pay the bills somehow, and this is better than Joja." type thing. But other than the scene where she has people try on clothes- and it seems sort of like those arent even clothes she designed- it doesn't come up. I was sort of expecting and hoping for a sub plot about her wanting to do something with her tailoring- open a store, sell her designs, have a fashion show similar to Leah's art gallery- just... anything. Instead it's kind of like an abandoned aspect of her character. And her scenes feel sort of... disjointed from each other. I also don't really remember her ever mentioning her goals for her future, or at least desires for the future, or if she does, it never comes up in any of the cutscenes in the friendship zone. Which makes her the odd person out from what I can tell, because everyone else at least mentions something, ranging from Penny's "American Dream," to Sam's "make a famous band," Alex's "gridball or house husband." Hell, one of Shane's second scene is him being too depressed to have a dream or goal beyond dying before he needs one, yet by the end of the next scene he at least has a goal of "work toward making my life suck less." So the lack of something similar from Emily is a bit odd, and really makes me wonder if I missed something. I still like her as a character, but her romance/friendship progression isn't my favorite thing, even though I really appreciate the effort CA put into making her a marriage candidate and expanding on her.
Yeah. I'm happy that CA officially made it happen. The improved dance animations, sprite update, and song are great. Clothing therapy is a great event for involving other villagers. I probably just expected too much.
I just really liked the additions. I didn't compare them to the other characters, but now I have a bird I can interact with in my house. What other NPC can do that for you?
