RELEASED Elithian Races Mod - A Starbound Expansion 2.3.10

A Starbound expansion mod which adds multiple new races and additional content

  1. FireFangs

    FireFangs Cosmic Narwhal

As per usual, I played around with the Legendary weapons. The new ones work perfectly as far as I can tell!

There is, however, a bug that I noticed for the two Droden swords. They do not get added to the collection like the other weapons do. Note that I spawned them as a Felin, so it might be linked to that, but all other weapons unlock just fine.

  2. Resonat

    Resonat Subatomic Cosmonaut

Don't worry, they also didn't show up for me, even though I play an Avikan.

  3. FireFangs

    FireFangs Cosmic Narwhal

Well, normally, as they are DRODEN weapons, only them should be able to achieve them, and it would make sense that they do not unlock. But Avikan weapons unlocked on a Felin, same for Trinkian weapons. I smell a bug! I must hunt and eat it.

About the starfarers refuge, is there a complete story? like more quests from the watchers and stuff?

  5. Aegonian

    Aegonian Weight of the Sky

The Thell are in the Sentient Aliens gallery, under the name Thelean. There's quite a couple of variations of the Theleans in the gallery, including pictures for all of their leaders! The Avikan were never built in Spore, actually: they were created not long after I quit Spore many years ago. I had sketches for them for a long time, and had intended to go back to Spore to build them, but the game won't run properly on my newer computer...

I'll have a look the the Trinkian Ship Door! Ill make sure it gets fixed in the next update!

Just took a glance at the files for those weapons, and noticed that one (the one you can't obtain without admin commands) was missing the line for unlocking its Collections entry, while the other unlocked the wrong Collections entry. This will be fixed in the next update!

Currently, no, but I plan on adding an Avikan storyline in a future update (complete with missions and all)!

That reminds me of a possible bug I encountered building the Keffrider barracks and forgot to report:
    20170131013004_1.jpg
The Avikan vault doors, if facing towards the left, have one of their nodes hanging way off in the air. I think this may be normal, though, given that the nodes are properly lined up if the door is facing left - I'm assuming the nodes don't flip when the door does.

Edit: Oh, a question. Is it normal for all of my Hunters/Keffriders/assorted guards to be spawning with blue-dyed armor?

Yeah, the input/output nodes remain in place when an object is flipped. It's usually not a big issue, but with the vault door it's very noticeable. I could try moving the nodes for the vault door closer to the center: if they were placed on the seam in between the two halves of the door, the nodes should still be on the sprites when flipped.

And yeah, I configured the guard tenants to use blue-dyed armour to set them apart from the regular guards. I could add a few more colours to add some more variety, if you'd like!

Makes sense. And the blue-dyed armor actually works pretty well! Was just curious if that was intended. Now I just need to find some Avikan stuff that paints or dyes a similar shade...

Edit: Actually, that brings up a suggestion. Have you considered making different variants of the Avikan fabric stuff craftable, similar to how Avali and Avali Colored Items do? I think the plating and Rhaiod stuff being sandy or purple in color is appropriate, but some more fabric options would be neat for customizing tents, shops etc.

Edit 2: I can see how to make it work without cluttering the leatherwork station as well - change the current Avikan fabric stuff to being a more simplified color, but add an Avikan fabric station that lets you take those base fabric items and dye them - using either vanilla dyes, or special dyes made from Avikan plants - in various colors matching the range of paint tool options. Orange could be the current fabric, black could be Watcher-styled, red could be Vanguard-styled, etc.

Am I correct in assuming that 7th silhouette is an Erixian?

I'll look into this! I remember Avali objects being dyeable/paintable in the Beta, but I don't think that system works any longer. A sort of fabric dyeing station might be possible, though!

    Yes, you are!

Yes, the dyeable Avali objects depended on a beta-era mod called Dyestation that died off a long time ago - the Avali Colored Items mod I linked partially revived it by adding a special dyeing station just for the Avali objects. I figured something like that could potentially be implemented into Elithian Races for the Avikan.

So far love this mod, found some trink settlements and a few avikans now. Love the way it's integrated so naturally. Would love to leave a 5 star review, but the option doesn't show for me right now. Thank you for this mod, great work.

I have played with the mod for around 4 weeks now, and i must say it is quite a good mod, with an incredible integration into the base game and vanilla lore. I won't go as far as playing one of the races yet, since i'm still an Avali lover, but all you had is (so far, can't wait for the next races updates) just excellent.
With that off my head, i have a proposition that may or may not have been already made :

I'm a roleplay fan, and, as it has been said again and again, boh the avali and the avikan look alike.
But it's maybe a good thing : boh the races stay close to their roots (using spears, and stuff like this, when they advanced quite a lot technologicaly) but they're really different in term of philosophy. This comes from my own playthrough and own little lore, so it's quite off the reality : What if the avali and the avikan share genetics, and have a close common ancestor, but with their envirronement (cold / hot, snow / sand) they develloped differently while sharing stuff : snow and sand are alike in term of form and life problems (the need to always move to ensure food finding, thus nomad life) but are opposed in heat.
This led to idea changes : To me, the avali are warriors, and tend to be more aggresive, enclosed on themself (they're all connected to their networks, but wouldn't like to open it to other races), while, disgusted of the war, the avikan lead the alliance (correct me, i havn't been through the wikis and lore post yet from a lack of time) and try a more peaceful approach.

tl:dr : the avali and the avikan may have a close genetic ancestor, and have similar but opposed way of life and philosophy, one being cold, warful, the other hot, friendly.
Thus : if both modding team tried, we could end with like a war between the two races, or an event, or a relation that could be put in game (if you play the avali, and join the alliance, or if you play an avikan, and find avalis. I do realize it's a humongous task, but it could be amazing

Last, and this isn't about lore but... How do i, precisely, unlock with another race, the ability to craft avali things. Before an update, i had carfted every stations from the elihian alliance, but they do not allow me to craft anything anymore...Destroying and replacing didn't change anything, nore remaking them (still had the ability to do so)

Hmm, the Centens are actually working in my game. Which commands did you try? I was able to spawn one using /spawnnpc centens villager

The Avikan have a pretty detailed backstory, which wouldn't fit in with an Avali crossover very well: the Centens were heavily involved in their evolution, which isn't the case for the Avali. It would technically be possible for them to share a genetic ancestor in the lore, but I don't think it'll ever be part of the canon. More interactions between the Avikan and Avali would definitely be nice though, but I'm not sure if the Avali creator (RyuujinZERO) is still active...

There wasn't really any way for you to know this unless you've read through the Elithian Alliance roleplay on on the THEA forums, but the Avikan are actually one of the few races that isn't part of the Alliance: they've been part of the THEA lore for quite some time, but were introduced to the roleplay later than most other races, and they haven't joined the Alliance yet. They've had interactions with the Alliance's nations, but due to their experiences with the Thell, they've grown rather apprehensive in their dealings with alien species. The fact that the Trinks, a race of synthetics, are part of the Alliance has only made them more apprehensive, but they are slowly starting to see the benefits of the Alliance.

If you're interested in more Elithian lore, it's actually the Aegi who lead the Elithian Alliance, as it was founded by them and the Dremeton. The Aegi, who are descendants of the human race (which, by the way, is believed to be extinct in Elithian lore), arrived on Elithia as refugees who had to flee Earth after a number of natural disasters destroyed human society. On Elithia, they had some conflicts with the local Dremeton, but eventually both parties signed a peace treaty called the Elithian Code. This Elithian Code would later become the Elithian Alliance.

As for your question about crafting recipes, you'll need to obtain an Avikan Crafting Guide. They can be bought from the Drifter's Emporium, which you can find in the Starfarer's Refuge. Head to the top floor of the Refuge, then go left into the dark corridor. Keep an eye on the ceiling: there are two hatches leading into the pipelines above. The first one you encounter is locked, but the second can be opened. Use your Distortion Sphere tech (preferably Spike Sphere) toget into the pipelines, and keep heading to the right. It's a bit of a maze in there, but so long as you keep heading to the right you'll eventually find the Drifters Emporium!

Thx for the way to obtain the recipe, and the knowledge upon your lore. I admit having played a lot of spore back in the days so it was nice when i saw what you did with your roleplaying group. About that last one, I've started reading it in details, but it'll take me some time to get on the page.Maybe i'll have more of an idea to link the races together with the avali.

This gives me one already : your mod is about an alliance, right? the base game talks about another alliance, the protectorate. Would it not be awesome if you managed to link them together? Like, the EA arrived into the starbound galaxy/universe/world/place/"stuff" long before earth was destroyed, since they had the time to build colonies and stuff. I suppose they contacted the protectorate at some point, so you could use Esther Bright to make some sort of quest line for the end game, after the story events.

RyuujinZERO isn't as active as before on the modding page, for lack of time reasons if i recall correctly, but i do hope he comes back to work again on the avali.

Yeah, the mod is basically a way for me to bring the Elithian Alliance roleplay to life, and that roleplay is about an alliance between a multitude of alien nations. My idea for the Elithian Alliance - Protectorate relationship is that the two factions met only a few years ago, and players who choose to play as an Alliance race act as ambassadors. If you play as a Trink, you actually get a codex entry that explains your role as ambassador, and a high-ranking admiral of the Elithian Alliance contacts you shortly after completing the intro mission.

I'm also planning to add a number of storylines to the mod, which are racially-exclusive, and become available after completing the vanilla story. I'll begin working on an Avkan story soon, and an Alliance story will hopefully follow after that. I hadn't really considered using Esther in it yet, but that's actually a very good idea!

I'm actually very interested in the elithian alliance roleplay, I wish I could enter the roleplay and all...(You know the race i'm making, dont you?! :^) ). Do you think the roleplay could revive? Seriously, ive never been interested in any kind of roleplays, but this one I really wanted to enter, wish it could be like before it was (from what ive seen and read)..

There's actually some discussions about a possible roleplay revival going on right now! I could invite you to the Elithian Alliance Steam group, that's where the members are most active at the moment.
