it would be cool if elevators where added, ( they could only move up and down on a specific block, and have a "level" block to mark a level for the elevator to stop at) (by clicking on elevator it gives you selection of availiable floors
Elevators would be great if there were genuinely interesting and surprising subsurface environments to explore... Let's say you're exploring the surface and find an elevator. How far down does it go? How dangerous is it? What monsters or NPCs are living down there? Will I be able to get back up? To me, this means that there needs to be a lot of work on the underground biomes. I had an example idea here: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/remove-subsurface-planetary-environments.62205/
It would be kind of funny to go down some random elevator, only to find a party full of cultist getting drunk.
Once they implement monorails, it's only a matter of time until this moves from "Terraria in Space" to "Roller Coaster Tycoon in Space"... =P
Roller Coaster Tycoon in Space would undoubtedly have tighter mechanics and systems interchange, rather than Starbound's sprawling ore > hunger > fuel > cold/hungry > ore cold > knee socks > brain extractor > cold showers > dowsing wad > copper ore, copper ore, copper ore, fuel extractor mechanics
I was more envisioning a combination of monorails and the challenger mode: MonoSkyrails. And then the hilarity of a MonoSkyrail that curves upwards to go over a mountain...but then encounters where the creator ran out of titanium and left the monorail to simply launch into space...
