Modding Discussion Elevators

    I'm curious whether or not elevators are a possibility. In several of my builds an elevator or even a teleport between floors would be preferred to platform stairs.

    As far as I know the only thing that can move the player is a tech, so probably not.

    Hmm, maybe two teleport pads linked by the wire tool. When you activate one it uses an edited version of the blink scrips that uses the linked pad as the target instead of the cursor.

    Hmm that's an interesting workaround for it Denesta. I'll have to fiddle with that and see if I can get anything to work. :D

    Someone made a waypoint mod that you can use instead of elevators. Waypoint Mod Link.

    well, the OP did say teleporters also accepted.. but where's the fun in that..?

    What if you had an object spawn dirt underneath the player procedurally so that it pushed the player upwards?

    Anyone know how viable that would be?

    Also, I hear you can make liquids fall/flow upwards with a negative down speed value, could mess with that..

    *Shruggs* just throwing ideas out there..

    Elevator might be possible by way of techs. You can make them do a fair bit if you rummage around in the configuration long enough. All you need is a custom image to represent an elevator, negate gravity so you can use WASD (like with the UFO mech I've seen), and just operate it within a shaft. Put some sort of platform level with each floor you'd like to stop at so when you disable the tech you don't fall back down.

    's an interesting idea, just make a bunch of shafts where the elevators would be, activate your tech and there you go....
    but .. you could kinda just.. turn your elevator on at any moment.. and just... fly off into the sky..

    I'm not so hot on using techs for machinery because they can be activated anywhere and kinda break the immersion for me =(

    I hope the lua API gets more robust with functionality so people won't have to resort to such things.. =(
