Just an idea I had last night for elevators, How they'd work and whatnot. I'll paint you the picture first. I have my home built on a planet, all nice furniture, all that fancy stuff, but I decide I want to build a secret underground laboratory under my home. As it is right now, if I want to descend to my underground laboratory, I'd need to take away the blocks, and make platforms going down to be able to get under my home and into my lab. Obviously my lab isn't so secret anymore plus, there's an in my floor to get down to the lab. In comes the elevator idea. What I was thinking for this was you could either craft the blocks, or find them, they would be elevator shaft blocks. They would function as wall blocks(the background ones). All I have to do is dig up the blocks from where I want my elevator to go in my home, straight down to my lab, dig up the wall tiles behind those blocks, replace them with elevator shaft walls, and put the dirt blocks or whatever back over, hiding the elevator shaft walls essentially. I then build two elevator doors that can only be placed on elevator shaft walls, put an elevator door in my home, and one on the other end in my lab. Easy as that. Now, when I activate the elevator, my character goes in it, and travels straight down(in the background/on the wall tiles) through all of the dirt(since I'm in the background which is an elevator shaft) and back out into my lab. A Nice neat and tidy way of descending into a secret lab I built under my home without having to make it visible my digging up copious amounts of blocks and making wood platforms for descending, I imagine the idea could be used in dungeons and whatnot as well to a pretty good extent. Does my explanation make sense? Does the idea sound cool/plausible? I'd love to hear the thoughts
i love your idea but not for the'' build it behind block' part.. That would be possible in a game like Little big planet, but I think it would be too long to implement a Z layer as of now :/ A special intangible dirt block maybe? But i had an idea for now, i think you could make a secret lab way down using lot of water and make a submarine base?
In my opinion, your idea seems more complicated than it has to be. Seems to me that it would be an unnecessary amount of time invested into making a simple vertical elevator shaft. But even if they decide to implement something similar to this, I don't think they'll focus as much on the "secrecy" part as some people would like.
