tynaut, the issue was that I wasn't sticking around long enough for the birds to turn into chickens. Once I stood in place for a few minutes they grew up.

 

For some reason my chicken duplicated themselves (i only had 3 but now i have 5!!!) i didn't put any more eggs in the incubator but when i came back there were just 2 more chicken , this also happened with your Gardenbots !!!

 

Yes, this is an error with Starbound that a few people have from time to time. My best guess is that if there is too much information when loading up a planet, sometimes NPCs, or special monsters (like chickens or my GardenBots) will spawn multiple times, therefore duplicating themselves, because the game doesn't register that they spawned when attempting to spawn them. Unfortunately I don't think I can do anything about it, but just have to wait for the game to address the issue.

I am experiencing a difficulty with herding my cows. I bought a female cow spawner from the NPC. I deployed it, but now the cow wanders all over the place. I tried making a bell and ringing it, but that only seems to work if the cow is on the same screen as the bell. So finally I tried making a critter capture pod to capture the cow, and that crashed my game. Sucks.

So now I know that I need a small, enclosed space that the cow cannot jump out of (because they jump!). But is there any way to herd these critters? The "tasty treat" only makes them follow you for about 5 seconds, so "A little while" is quite an exaggeration.

I like the potential of this mod, but right now it's quite inconvenient to use.

Edit: I wonder if you could use rope to lead animals around in future updates?

 

You can always get quests on your old character by deleting the playerquest.db file. However, this will wipe out ALL of your quests.


On an unrelated note, the "Basic Eggsamples" book didn't appear to be consumed when I used it, and no note ever popped up that I had learned new recipes, but I now see that when I access my kitchen table, I am able to cook poached eggs and a number of other egg recipes.

 

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I found the problem with capture pods on cows, and I've made up a fix for it. I also agree with you about the wandering thing, it's something I've thought needed to be improved for awhile, but haven't done anything about. But I'm working on something now to try and improve this. Cows share some of the same base AI as the other ground monsters in game, and I spent awhile trying to make them not jump, but I didn't have any luck yet. I'd like to do it in a way where I don't need to rewrite all of their movement, because it just doesn't seem worth it. So when I figure out a decent way to make them stop jumping, I will. I also had the idea of having a rope to lead animals, but the way I'd like to do it isn't possible (yet) with modding.

I have one last thing to say. In the first version I've downloaded of this mod animals always duplicated themselves (not making babies). Is it already fixed because if not it should be.

Yes

Duplication bug is in Starbound, it happens to NPCs and monsters from time to time (even without mods), usually when planets take a long time to load, so having mods seems to exacerbate the issue. So I can't really fix it, but I am working on some performance improvements, which should hopefully reduce the issue until it is fixed in game.

Ok, so I'm really confused as to how feed works. I thought I read somewhere that you need about 1 feed per animal per day. When I put a bunch of feed in my cow trough with 2 cows, they eat through 80 feed in about an hour. Insanity.

If I stop feeding them, do they die? Do they just stop breeding and producing milk?

Moreover, I have the little hand-held pheromone stimulator and the milker, but I don't know how to get anything to work. When I zap the cows with the handheld scanner, they either let off pink or blue bubbles, so I assume that tells me which is a male and which is a female. So then I try milking the female, but even when all I had was a female cow so it was guaranteed 100% sure she wasn't pregnant, I couldn't get milk. Is this true to life? Does the cow have to have had a calf once first and then you start milking her?

And as for chickens, does it matter what gender they are? I read somewhere you don't have roosters? So does that mean they're just all female and egg-layers by default? If so, groovy geese! And geese would be a fun addition in the future! Goose eggs are allegedly great for baking cakes with. Turkeys would be fun too, as well as some more alien birds, though please, never the dumb flying mobs from the actual game. They look so corny and non-aerodynamic.

EDIT: Chickens eat the heck out of feed too. I have 5 chickens and they just powered through 78 feed in about 20 minutes. Augh!

 

Sorry if this has been asked before, but...

Are there any plans to add any other egg-laying animals, besides Chickens? Perhaps Turkeys or Emus or Ostriches? Or, even better, adding some alien "moster" type egg-laying critter? It wouldn't have to be a bird, even. Reptiles lay eggs, too. And some people do eat crocodile eggs. And don't forget caviar (fish eggs). Some people even eat frog, ant, or snail caviar! (Trivia: The Giant African Snail regularly grows over 7 inches long, sometimes growing almost a foot long.)

I have a problem... I am growing wheat but whenever i harvest it i find no straw. I have harvested 20 or so wheat crops and not a single straw. Is this a bug or are there requirements to get straw?

 

This is a great mod, i really enjoy it, but my chicks seem to be taking longer that two days to grow. it might not have been a full two days yet, i cant remember, but my friend on my server had some chicks and i dont think they have grown yet either, and he had them for longer that two days
