Bug/Issue Edge scenario when food doesn't replenish energy

I don't know if this is a new bug in 1.4, or an old one I've simply never noticed before, but if you eat something at the top of the mines, then immediately right click on the elevator to go back down into the mines, the food disappears from inventory but you don't get the energy or HP from it

It's definitely vanilla, I haven't played with mods since before 1.4 came out.
