I'd think a contest would work the best. To be honest though, I don't think Starbound really needs any easter eggs, as it already has millions of things to offer.

 

Well, the Bob-omb item and Snow Gangsta are already easter(n) eggs, so...
I suppose we will be getting more.

Easter eggs? Well, you mentioned a wheelchair in the black hole, but how about a little guy with a flashlight searching for a lightswitch? :P
Also, we need more rock references, like Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Anthony Kiedis. The music I've heard so far seemed a bit like a Nyan cat reference, so I guess there can be more music that can sound like a rock bands song, but having an npc called Kurt Kobain or Jane Lennon or Anthony Kyris would be so freaking awesome.

Oh, and there must be a yellow squared sponge next to a pink starfish somewhere in the ocean planet ;)

Almost forgot this one, there should be a place that's realy hard to get to, that says "There are no easter eggs here, go back!"

I enjoy all Easter Eggs! Considering Terraria wasn't such a serious game I'd guess Starbound won't be either, so I say, the more easter eggs the better.
The two things I'd really like is a Terraria reference (this game is rather based on Terraria after all) and Star Wars, becuase common, it's Star Wars!

 

In the end, Easter eggs are inevitable...

It would rather be based on classic sidescrollers like Mario than based on terraria. It's just that Tiy has worked on both, so the sprites might have some similarities (though the syle seems to have changed an awefull lot as well)
Terraria references would be pretty awesome, though

I love Futurama I would love to see the headless body of vice president Agnew or the planet express ship crashed on a planet reference.
