Because money is incredibly easy to come by if you're not suiciding over and over.

Oh my God, another forum tough guy. When lowest level gear is bad vs lowest level enemies there is SURELY something is wrong with difficulty scalling.

Really the starter sword is so powerful. You don't even have to keep clicking, just hold it down and watch mobs try to come at you. If anything the game is quite forgiving for starting players. The UFO did bust the crap out of me and my friend though :)

I think the early game is just fine. It is a bit hard, no doubt, but it doesn't take long to reverse the balance of power. It took me about 2 hours to dig up enough iron for full iron armor and a 1h and 2h crafted weapon, not to mention something like 50 bandages and enough food for a several "days" of mining. I think the trick is to get off the surface and dig down deep enough to find more plentiful ore.

I had to use this strategy too in a prison dungeon...

well you want to do it like that you can hit things through doors. but what I do mean is timing your attacks with enemy movement. also pack lots of bandages to keep you alive

nothing is wrong just get some armor and weapons that aren't the ones you start with.... think of the game more as a surface exploration game you can dig in and you will find lots of iron once you get a good crafted weapon it will be "easier" for you

How do you get the money? It costs like 300 for all the fish weapons and 400 for the lowest of the iron armor. I feel like the game is doable for a person who knows what they are going in to. But for a new person it will EAT YOUR CHILDREN (Ok no it wont but you get the point :p)

  10. Considering how the boss is a gatekeeper for the second starmap, it's understandable for the thing to be difficult. (protip: go to the other planets. You are expected to. and look for chests.) Also there are big monsters that let off red sparkles - if you kill them, they often drop a fairly strong weapon.
Danger level 5 or so planets have mobs that drop 20-40 pixels.

Also upgrade your bow, the iron bow is amazing compared to the wooden one.

If you can't find ores, go diving into the caves (knock out the back wall for easy light during the day and also drains the water that's in the cave.) Avoid digging like in Terraria - the game wants you to go from one cave to the next, not dig to the center of the earth.

Also dungeons have obscenely tough mobs compared to the rest of the planet (I was owned by a poo in a sewer.) so be prepared for that.

I haven't fought the boss yet, but I assume you need at least a full set of silver armor to stand a chance.

The UFO is not that early boss you can defeat with crappy items... you need to farm better gear first and copper armor is not that kind of stuff you need, especially for the weapons... Like in Terraria, if you had no decent gear, Skeletorn kill you easy .

By the way, the high difficulty is the Fun part of this game - easy mode or " mobs will die just looking at them " would be boring as hell... NO OFFENSE, but if you want the dinner already served in your plate, with no efforts, change game. It's like call of duty players that want always the easy win with those useless killstreaks / perks and call the helicopter or everything else to get Frags without moving a single finger...

About pixels : this currency is REALLY EASY to farm ----> mobs, pots / jars, chests, hidden chests, etc etc - in 5 / 10 minutes max, I've collected like 700 / 900 pixels...

Bow : the game doesn't force you guys to use only the bow, be smart, attack the mobs with the Sword, then when they have low life, use the Bow - with a well placed Power Shot they will die and drop also the Meat... It's also easy to dodge the attacks, especially when they jump... just go in the other direction ( ie. : jump left ? go right ) - - - Also, if you hit the mob, move backwards, then hit him again : no damage suffered.

I would say just rush for a iron bow, if you are really bad with the bow then craft a melee weapon. they will all do about 100 damage and 1 shot most mobs on a threat level 1 planet. once you manage to get that, gathering pixels will be much much easier

also keep in mind that mobs only drop pixels when killed with melee weapons

so far, i'm about 3 hours in, copper hat and pants, copper pickaxe and i have my anvil made up. i'm mining around, getting used to everything, and so far, i think the difficulty at the begining is really good. its simple, yet hard, the starter sword is really decent, the hunting bow is dinky, but i find that to be a good way to start. it makes you think about risk vs reward. sure i can off creeps easy with melee, but then i risk starving. bow is risky, i often get charged by aggro'd aliens. one change that may be needed is not being allowed to attack monsters through the cieling with melee, or at least not without better weapons. i'm for weapons that penetrate cover, but at the start, all you have to do is box yourself in and fight groups without any fear of retaliation.

I love the game! the difficulty is refreshing and new, most games do sew the pillow under the players arms a bit now. You dont need to fight the UFO until a while into the game, but if ya want to progress after silver and that stuff you might need to, but you can easily go to another planet and find better weapons before trying to get him. I did it on my 3. try, was about to just go to bed if I didnt get him this time xD

I don't mind the daytime difficulty. The nighttime difficulty makes no sense though. The mobs can literally one shot you.

i agree. mining materials takes far too long, drop rates are too rare.

People need to remember that the story-line isn't even actually in the game yet, a set of supplementary quests are. For a matter of a fact, the UFO boss /probably/ won't even be the first boss in the game, I'm sure the story-line will supplement that.
I agree it's a rough start, and some things may be unbalanced, but hey, it's the Progenitor stage, it's to get it out there for bug fixes and balancing, that's the point.

On the topic of pixel uses, I understand why a sort of system is in there, if anything it's probably the galactic currency of the game, considering the multiple races and their respective view of each other (you get the context by clicking "N" and read their chat towards your race).
For crafting, I see it as like maintenance cost, if you go out into the wilderness and expect to make a gear or machine with no cost other than an anvil and your bare hands, then you're just silly, (if we're going based on real world application, as some have been stating.)
Hell, no one said this was based on real world crafting etiquette, so they may be used for a reason that's unbeknownst to us.

Maybe the issue isn't that the boss is too hard, but simply that people haven't adjusted to the idea of visiting other planets before taking him on?

Fuel for the ship is easy enough to come by (wood in a pinch, coal is better).

Are you saying it's a good thing to have to grind for upwards of three hours just to get curb-stomped by the boss? That fucker is impossible to beat, unless there's some way to get a gun on the first two planets that I didn't know about.

Visit more planets? Seriously, the game has a strong exploration angle to it. Spending three hours on one planet and then trying to take the boss on is, essentially, doing it wrong.
