Change the color of almost anything! (Previously Dyeing Bucket)

    @RyuujinZERO
It doesn't exist for dungeon files as far as I know. No vanilla asset uses such a feature and I can't find anything like it in the executable.

Rats. Thanks for the info, rather puts a dent in my plans.

Hmm I noticed something when dying the Fluorescent Light, I dyed them ever color but only the basic undyed light still gives off light as shown by the pic.

The one on the far left giving off light is the basic one that is not dyed any color.

I'm not sure if the same is true for other lights, I know the tall versions both horizontal and vertical work fine and give off light.

Improved space magic. It now comes in more than just red, green and blue.

Just a heads up, but doors don't appear to work with dyemod right now. Colour variants exist in the game files, and attempting to dye it brings it up at the station, but the resulting door is always default colour (same goes for custom doors). I suspect it's to do with the fact there are no names set up for those alternate colours and the fact the frame is controlled by the door lua script.

Maybe you could edit the lua script to recognise a new frame sheet and use coloured aliases

I noticed there are now options for the method this uses to change colors on an item, was a way to set the method to use the old colorindex system that is coded in items now? What about a way to make, say armor items use the old 16 color system instead of this either in a separate .object merge or maybe in a future update, set the machine itself to switch to the old mode for items.

I'm only asking because I've come across a few mods adding dyeable items with different color palettes.

Ah... I seem to have a bit of a problem with the mod.
When I download it, it tells me items are 'duplicated'.
And then it tells me it is one of the new dyes.
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing here, so some help would be appreciated. xD

Sounds like you extracted the mod twice, into different folders.

No, I've checked and checked again, and it's nothing like that.
I think my computer's just being an a-hole like always.

    WORK IN PROGRESS
    Dye mixer:
    • Mix red, yellow and blue into any color of the rainbow using kindergarten style logic.
    • Add black, white or gray to change brightness and saturation.
    • Add rare dyes for special effects like semi-transparency, glowing or particles.
    Dye applicator:
    • Apply dye to different parts of an item separately.
    • Instantly preview the results after inserting an item.
    • Complete the process by taking out the version of the item you want.
    Issues:
    • How to communicate that an item is only available in certain colors?
    • What should it cost to dye an item?
    • How can the interface be made better?
    Feedback?

Interesting... only thought I have... and it isn't feedback... ugh... brain get out of the gutter! I'm gonna say it anyways... semi-transparency first thing that came to mind was lingerie :lod: Serieously brain... wtf

besides that random thought... looks nice I completely love ability to be able to customize the colors of the items in particular clothing and armor, having multicolored armor and clothing is great adds much more flexibility and uniqueness and allows quite a lot of personalization for players to make their character stand out.

That is assuming of course your able to find a way to do it.

You have a point actually. Since the character sprite is rendered underneath to provide colour for the gaps, transparent dye would in fact render their underwear visible through their armour (or lack thereof)

How easy would it be to make an item compatible with it?
Would it simply need more than one default colour profile? or a set of specific sprite colours? or would each item need a dyemod compatibility profile?

It's probably going to be similar to how it is now but with more options. It'll continue to default to settings that work with the majority of vanilla items. This means specific sprite colors for wearables and only one dyeable area.
If you need something that isn't standard you'll have to tell my mod. That's just how it is. You'll be able to set multiple items to use the same settings.

It's not going to be painless, but I'm writing a big guide this time. If you have any thoughts about how you'd like it to work, let me know. I'm an expert on my own stuff so I may make decisions that create a lot of unnecessary difficulty.
