Outdated Dye Mod 2.1 (Enraged Koala)

    yes, it works with at least Creative Mode, and it should be active on any character you have.

    I don't use the MannCo mod, and the custom ships mod has literally nothing that overlaps with the Dye mod, so it should be fine.


    You should learn to experiment. If you're not sure a mod will work, backup your saves elsewhere, then try the mod on a new character. If it doesn't work, uninstall it and replace the damaged players folder with your backups.

    So... backup your characters every time you go to install a mod that you're not sure about the effects of.

    So @MrMagical would you be okay with it, I'd like to attempt to make an unofficial nightly port of this mod. As a challenge me and a few of my modder friends are running a modded nightly server to keep our coding skills sharp and we wanted to include your mod.

    Distribution would be mostly private and anything beyond that would be only with your permission and on your terms, also if you ask I'll keep you subscribed to the nightly patch as well so you can see what is being changed.

    Are you okay with this?

    Is the guide mentioned a page or so back comiing soon? Will it contain the the preferred way of making a mod compatible with Dye Mod, or is the preferred way to make our mods compatible on page 1 of the comments? Looking at that page, the directions appear to be just for armor/clothes. How do we convert objects like a chair, please? The sprites for some of my objects are already made in the basic colors, and I added the line to retain data to the ones I am working on. Any instruction would be appreciated. Will you post the current guide or a link to it on the front page please? If the instructions are somewhere in the comment section, I have missed them.

    That said, wow, thank you. I love the flexibility it gives the player in wearables and decorating. Kudos!

    If you're trying to use this with unstable, bare in mind that almost none of the extant mods (save for those designed to run with nightly) will work in the current build.

    Well,i'd love to see Spacebound,Vitsou,Colorbound,Okea and this one. They were in my stable build since when i discovered the forum

    Hey all, I've managed to update this mod on Upbeat Giraffe... I can craft the station, open the dye interface on items and it outputs a new item with the new name, however, it does not color it. Kind of a shout out to the dev of the mod... Think you could help me? I wouldn't release this without your permission.

    With all the new items and changes in the new stable build release "Upbeat giraffe" I assume this may be a somewhat challenging update to create... but it would be unrivaled when it comes to expanding customization. It is a must have for anyone who enjoys mods in starbound, love your work and effort and wish you best of luck. Update will be so much fun if you can make it happen once again! :D

    I've delved into the internal workings of starbound's color stuff, and, at least for items, they start out this orange brown color and are colored in-game by a bunch of "this hex value should be this" statements, so you could easily make it independent of data as long as that same system is used by what you're trying to dye, and I imagine that this is pretty similar to what the mod author actually did.

    Unfortunately, the newest version seems to have a different way of doing player.config files, which invalidates all the old stuff. Not sure if this is actually accurate, as I just looked into the code of various mods, but all the player.configs I found are now Player.Config.Patch and have a completely different format.

    The LUA api has changed since Koala, so you can't just re-write the merge code to the new patch format and expect it to work. The code needs to be rewritten. The LUA API documentation can be found in the modding help forum if you're interested.

    EDIT: The mod page does say there's a new version in the works, but I can't seem to find out when that was written, and MrMagical Hasn't posted since September & doesn't have the recently active thing visible, so I'm not really sure what to think.

    I want to apologize for the lack of updates. A new version is indeed being worked on.
    I've tried to put time aside for this while being very busy with other things. It's difficult for a single person to make all these design decisions and implement them properly within the harsh restrictions of the game's engine.

    Dye Mod 3.0 "Infinity" now contains many thousand lines of code and item properties, but it's not finished. I still have a few problems left to tackle. :wut:
