Outdated Dye Mod 2.1 (Enraged Koala)

Change the color of almost anything! (Previously Dyeing Bucket)

Would it be possible to 'tell your mod' within the item itself? or would every item need a small file to point the dye mod to it?

like I want yellow to be my second dyeable area, I make the sprites with those two defaults, then list both defaults in the item's file. Then have one file that says, "HEY! These areas are dyeable for all these items!"

Or even a dyemod colour profile line within the object, calling on a specific preset colour profile.

Find a wooden or robotic crafting table. Break it, pick it up and then place it down again.
If you do that it will try to force your character to learn the recipe. It should show up in both the 3D printer and the crafting table.

If that does not work you probably installed the mod wrong or there is another mod that causes a conflict.

You should be able to install it the normal way by putting it in the mods folder on the server (after unpacking it of course).
Please note that you still need to find or 3D print the glitch bucket so that it can be used.

how am i supposed to find that bucket. Wouldnt it be much better to just add the item to the inventory or something when the mod is installed?

+ when i installed the single player version i could see dye's in the crafting table and i had a dye station. When i installed the mulyplayer one there was none of those.

I do not know if it has been reported yet, but with this mod, I've discovered that it is seemingly breaking the 3D printer, causing it to refuse to scan any dyeable items. My guess is that the 3D Printer's scanner operates under the assumption that if you do not know a recipe for creating a scannable item, then you haven't scanned it. The Dye Mod is probably breaking this assumption because it is adding recipes for undyed versions of items, which makes the 3D printer think you've already scanned the item.

PS: I've tested Dye Mod on an install with no other mods, and the problem still occurs.

The dye station generates recipes on the fly right before the interface opens. It then uses a special parameter to display the recipes without "teaching" the player character about them. This is similar to how NPC merchants work.
Because of that there is no obvious reason why it would cause the 3D printer to not work. I can also not reproduce the issue you are describing. Please note that only placeable objects can be scanned in the 3D printer (and that some objects, like NPC spawners, have known issues).

If you tell me exactly what item you are trying to scan I could try it for myself. You could also uninstall mods and try scanning items on a new character.

I did this with a clean setup: no other mods except for one to add coal and pixels, and the universe/player folders were wiped. I used the coal to fuel the ship and travel to the following world, which has an avian tomb a short distance to the left of the spawn point:

    Alpha Nu Oph 471 III
    X: 19911028
    Y: -22749447

Of particular note, the Sacrificial Altar found in the tomb would not scan. The avian doors with the red diamond markings also would not scan. And if you know the coordinates for one of the avian tomb dungeons, the various sarcophagus placeables also will not scan.

    Alpha Orionis 901 III b
    X: 37278972
    Y: 96412394

The world for these coordinates have an avian village. The crystal lamps, the avian cabinets, and (I think) the avian banners would not scan.

EDIT: A little heisenbug warning: for some strange reason, items modded into one's starting inventory have no trouble scanning.

I have investigated things more carefully and it seems like you right.
Dye Mod enables a featured called retainObjectParametersInItem for objects that support dyes. This makes sure that the color data is stored in the item when an object is picked up.
It turns out that the 3D printer refuses an object if it has this extra data stored in it. But this used to be a very minor issue since non dyed objects could still be scanned (because they have no color data).

However, in a recent update Chucklefish also added script storage to the data that is retained. Dye Mod does not use this script storage at all, but for some reason it still sticks an empty scriptStorage property into the object when it is picked up.

TL;DR I tell the game to keep object color data. The game updated and now also sticks useless data into the object, causing it to not scan.

My only choices now are to either not allow placeable objects to be dyed or to not allow them to be scanned into the 3D printer. Only Chucklefish can change the game to allow both.

Workaround: Use the object with the Dye Station and select the default option at the top. This temporarily removes the useless data and makes it possible to scan the object.
Workarounds like this one will not be acceptable in the long run, however.

I see, had no idea about that little 'feature'. Anyways, glad you could figure out the underlying problem, and I'm glad there's a workaround.

The extra colors don't appear to work. I've exported both the "DyeMod" and "DyeModExtras" folder to my "mods" folder, and the regular dyes work as advertised. However, the extra dyes do not show up at all. Do you have any idea how to fix this? (I wanna make some sick diamond Doom Lord armor...)
EDIT: Immediately after I post this, it fixed itself. I have no idea what was wrong, as I had already reinstalled it twice, I guess the third time's the charm.

Um, hello, I was just wondering how do you make this mod work??? I tried extracting the file and putting it in the mods folder on Starbound, but it did not work. I looked for the item in my crafting/ crafting table, and tried printing it in the printer, but it was not there. This was a problem for another mod I tried to install as well. I've only tried installing 4 mods, and only two were successful.
