Does this mean that you can't just teleport back to your ship constantly? All of this talk of setting up camps and item durability that could be refreshed by going back to the ship makes me think that it wouldn't just be as easy as pressing a button to go to your ship, then pressing it again to teleport back. I mean all of this would be much more meaningful if you were forced to stay on the planet for a while in order to get anywhere.

Good point. If printed items have lower values, printing ores would have no detrimental effect on the end product, since you use ores to craft, and not to sell.

hrm.. interesting I like this concept. tools need to be maintained but with simple ores you run across anyway even if your not trying (not trying does not = afk :proper: )
Should give each planet a sense of "worth"

you can only teleport to your ship from above ground if i remember correctly

Nah. I mean, you can automatically teleport back to your spawn at any time, to any map. But the mining in terraria is still meaningful, since going away means having to find your position again.

  7. But if you find an amazing cave and you're really deep, you don't wanna go all the way back up and down again.
So it forces you to think about bringing extra tools so that you're prepared to stay in the cave for a long time.

Eh, I don't fancy"printed" stuff. They're so fake, and inorganic, unlike the plastic chair I brought straight form a factory.

You can't teleport to your ship from underground, you have to be on the surface and even then it takes a few seconds to charge up. Which can be interrupted if hit by a monster.

  10. Oh god I just had this vision of people showing off their home bases and saying, "Welcome to my base. Everything is real, no printed objects."

This printed and non-printed thing is gonna become a class system!

I'm generally against item durability as going back to repair is a downtime to fun and carrying spare items wastes precious inventory space. Still, there are ways to implant such feature without making it a hassle, like items could become a bit less efficient when broken. Otherwise, what Tiy described seems like a fair compromise, weapons and armors don't break over time, yet for heavy excavation and the likes, you'll have to go back sooner or later, it adds a sense of pseudo-exhaustion. Since you can beam back to your ship and have everything repaired to mint condition instantly and then beam back to work, the downtime is minimal.

Personally I would like a dullness system similar to monster hunter that reduces the overall effectiveness of a tool and will eventually lead to breaking, but that's if you leave it dull for a fairly long time.

It definitely would give a sense of massiveness to a world. It would be prudent to create efficient mining tunnel networks to not only travel from the base to the depths but to do so so you can return from the depths unhindered.

I dunno.... it kinda makes you more and more depressed the duller your tools get. I can just feel myself getting more and more frustrated, as the digging slows down.

Ah, yeah, Tiy gave more info while i was typing. Well then, dig your galleries in a way so it is easy to go back to the surface. ;)
