Bug/Issue Duplicate Crew?

For some reason I've been having issues with my entire crew being cloned! While you might think this is cool and you can take your favorite medic twice, it's not meant to be. When warping (sometimes down to planet, sometimes back to ship) with both clones set to follow, the game crashes quite significantly. The only seeming fix for this is to set both clones to follow, aswell as someone else, beaming down, then beaming back and repeating with as many crew as you have. ect ect agnozium. If there is anything you can do, please help? My sanity is wearing thin trying to figure out who is the real Socketspring McGee

No. There's nothing else you can do beside having clones follow and then dismissing crewmembers. Those who cannot follow may have their clones, unresponsive, stuck on your ship. Also, we already have one or two other threads (probably more) about this. Searching a bit wouldn't hurt.

I've taken another break from the game for now - waiting for the crew duplicate bug, more server settings and general crew polish to be provided, together with overall performance optimization before I'll play again. Probably you'll also have to wait yourself for the next patch (or some patch after that) to have the crew work fine.

Yeah, i searched after i posted, and could only find one that was a similar issue, however the fix for that sounded way more risky. its not really a debilitating thing, but its only happened playing online. but thanks for the other solve for that bug!! i'm gonna try it out next time it happens. the weird thing is that the one other post i could find only talked about having one crew member duped, but every time I've had it happen to me, its been every crew member, including penguins

I can't actually play the game; anytime I go anywhere, my WHOLE CREW duplicates. I don't know what happened, but yesterday's hotfix has now made the game unplayable.

Not to mention also, if you play with friends in multiplayer, none of your progression is saved locally for yourself so you're screwed on that as well.

    Oh well.

Can confirm, my entire crew got duped before our server crashed.
And of course that crash wiped my ship of its progress also for the third time :) *grin*

Crew Duplicating, behavior, descriptions, and possible work-around until fixed:

1.Teleporting anywhere, either in single or multi-player causes the whole crew to duplicate, even teleporting back to your ship.

2.Removing duplicates is a process of getting them to follow you and teleporting back and forth until they are gone. (Have at least 2 of the same following you, then teleport somewhere, one of them will be deleted.)

    3. Tailors can not be gotten rid of, dismissing them only makes the duplicates stay forever and ever and ever and ever because you can not speak/interact with them.

    4. It appears that having crew members follow you all of the time, *MIGHT* prevent the duplicating to occur; this means there is some major bug within how the game itself is managing your whole crew.

    5. One *might* be able to dismiss and reinvite crew members that are remain on the ship.

    6. One *might* be able to kill duplicate tailors with lava, but only after one has dismissed the original tailor. (confirmed, this worked.)

List of details when it began, *maybe* methods to narrow how to replicate bug

    1. Was playing in a friend's universe VIA steam when it began happening; it persisted to continue even when switching to single player, after a full reboot of computer/game. Now it happens consistantly both in single and multiplayer for that character.

    2. Had just completed the Avian main quest line instance; completed the boss fight and was going back and forth between ship and outpost.

2a. Was working on redesigning the interior of the ship and manufacturing large amounts of Dark Smooth Stone (30k of, was going to go build a base on a world).

    3. Used pixel compressor to uncompress 10k worth of pixels, the intention to go and buy more durasteel. Upon teleporting to the outpost, no away team, the whole crew duplicated for the first time.

    4. Just in case; I had already used the tailor many hours ago before the bug began, to change my crew's uniforms. The only change was a cape I had made. (I wanted my crew to all have capes). I left it on them. I had tried using the shadow shirt that I wear but each crew member inherited the shadow fog and I found it too distracting, so I made sure it was jus the Protector Uniform and the simple long cape you can craft, (Glitch).

Is this repeatable? Yes. Anytime that I DO NOT have a full away team, either in multiplayer or singleplayer, any teleporting instantly creates a full duplicate crew.

Hopefully this will get pinned so people can benefit from what we've uncovered and mitigate it until the devs can respond/patch/throw bricks of penguin poo at it.

I've had this as well. my pre-bug circumstances are quite different to yours, maybe we can find something that's true for both.

I've done no massive manufacturing jobs: mostly random quests and farming.
I'm not gotten the Avian artefact yet (that's my next plot-quest)
Recently upgraded to the Falcon (ship upgrade that needs 8 crew)
I had been teleporting places without my crew.
I do have a tailor (I had two, in fact). My crew also wear capes (the ragged protectorate cape from the intro mission).

I was able to get rid of non-tailor dupes by dismissing the crew members. When I did that, only one dupe would leave: talking to a remaining copy would put them in my crew. I could then re-dismiss them if there were more left.

Interestingly, the ship seems to be saved locally with my character: my singleplayer game keeps it. It's possible the reason this is causing multiplayer servers to crash is a client-server argument about NPC IDs?

Not entirely the case. The only thing that is wrong with it is it doesn't save the progress up to meeting ester, everything after that it saves. The key to this is to get far enough in your ship progress to allow warp travel (with a few fuel) and go to a gentile star and find a lush planet. Grab 20 core fragments at your leisure, and activate the gate. After this continue as you normally would once you activate the teleporters and ensure the vendors are all still unlocked. If they are not, then simply complete the required missions.

My whole crew duplicated a few days ago, only one at a time followed me around though, and they didnt do more work on the ship even though theyre duplicates. To fix it I just dismissed my crew members from S.A.I.L, starting with the one I liked the least just to be sure I wouldnt lose em :) After that he was gone from the panel, had to click on each one of them and dismiss. Just left one of each in my ship :) Hope they're the originals and not some stupid clone. Now It looks like they're no longer duplicating and everything is fine :)

    Yep I managed to figure that out, it appears that the only two things you can not re-unlock are;

-The penguin Vendor (the one that sells the throwable worm)
-If you happened to have completed I think the 5th key for the gateway, where she gives you the key, you can not do so in SP; she doesn't actually give out an item.

Yup, this bug is very much wonking out our multiplayer server, and after rolling back to a previous backup, the server (while still a little laggy) returned to its regular performance levels. So the duplicate crews seems to be causing some severe performance issues.

well that would make sence, its trying to generate and monitor and run double the normal npcs, in one screen. i just wish that after they fix it, they make the crew wander the ship, but have crew of the same job remain in the same general area. unless they have a status report, like how the mechanic or engineer will always come to you to say they fixed the ship

Glad I saw this, I had my two crew mates duplicate themselves. After seeing some of these issues I managed to just dismiss them all. Not going to recruit anyone until they fix this. I was about to go on a recruiting spree too.
FYI I recently killed the mine boss two more times in multiplayer, if that had anything to do with it, idk.

I've had this problem as well, but have found a way to (temporarily) fix it. First talk to the 2 duplicates of a member, so that they are following you. Then exit to the main menu, and reenter your universe. The 2 duplicates following you should have now become 1 crew member. Hopes this helps!

  15. Witness

    Witness Giant Laser Beams

As I've stated above, it won't work for "resident" crewmembers who won't follow you, like tailors.

The only way so far I was able to really "solve" the issue was through first dismissing everyone, allowing them to save themselves in thanks for service rendered (speaking of which, it is sad one cannot offer retired crewmembers a position such as guard for the player's colony) and then, in spirit of Dwarf Fortress, commencing thorough and glorious purification of the ship through liberal use of lava (poison would probably work as well, but slower).
Still, it's not a decent workaround as it forces people to lose crewmembers.

As I stated in my post above, I was able to get rid of all 60 duplicates by simply beaming down with 2 of the same, and 1 of another. Took me 30 minutes but it was worth it. Since then having a full away team all the time any time I beam has appeared to solve the issue.

No it was one medic and one soldier and they both had one clone each. I first went into the SAIL menu, dismissed what a could, then had one clone still following me. I went back into SAIL, and then the clone was there in SAIL and allowed me to dismiss her, too. She wasn't there in the menu the first time and popped up after I closed it and went back in.

Oh - God... This can't be happening... This is so frustrating. I think my save data is corrupted now. It always crash everytime I try to play the game due to this bug. I spent more than 80 Hrs. in that campaign and had my very own world reformed...

    This bug totally sucks! :fireball:

An update I dismissed all my crew from single player and then went back to my friend's world and the two members I had dismissed were waiting for me when I got there. One followed me back onto my ship and it allowed me to dismiss her.

Sadly people are still reporting in seperate posts everywhere that their crew is duplicating.

That means the issue hasn't been resolved.
It also means that either people are unable to search and find the existing posts about it, or are not attempting to.
This would be resolved if a post was simply pinned, and it would also help to tell us if the developers are even aware of the problem. Right now it doesn't appear to be the case.
